My problem with forums

I have realised that I have a 'forum problem' and I know there are many of you out there who have the same thing

It begins when I see a thread criticising my fave housemate and something takes over and I become more abusive than I would ever dream of being in a face to face argument

I have been removed from another forum once before and was removed for a short time on this one over the last few days for comments made about Hazel and her supporters and I would just like to say that although I do hate Hazel and her behaviour disgusts me, that is my opinion, and I can comment on it without being so abusive to other forum users

I have had an epiphany and now realise how stupid it is to hate others because there opinion differs to mine, I thank God every day for those around me who dont always agree with me, yet on here, I act like they are the devils spawn

I am not promising to control all my urges on the Forums but I do hope that in future, I will think before I post and try not to be personal with other users of these highly entertaining tools.

HERE'S HOPING LOL

Yes, it is hard sometimes not to just call someone a rampaging moron or something for their views. But just take a deep breath, read over your post before pressing the send button

I know from bitter experience that it is soooooo easy to be absolutely horrible to others online simply because they are 'anonymous'. And as for posting while drunk ... DON'T DO IT :bawling:

If only we could do that with face to face arguments too lol

I find taking asylum in the appreciation treads while certain members make their 200 hate treads a day quit helpful. Its not that bad this year tbh.

If only we thought that when drunk!

the only saving grace for me when I'm plastered is that my spelling is so bad after a few that no one would know how nasty I was being anyway lol

Black Dagger 19-07-2013 01:31 PM

I know how you feel

Unfortunately I don't have the will power to not be aggressive if I feel somebody is a ****ing moron. But yeah, stay cool xo

It's a bit tedious on there. Hardly ever bother even looking, these days.

Once upon a time the BB production team kept an eye on DS (never on TiBB!) But all they are interested in now is Twitter.

It made me think again lol

I think the problem also is it is very difficult to work out the tone with which a post may be made.

I get worked up during BB more than other times on here but I try to stay as reasoned as I can.
I never mean anything in a bad way or if I could be heard would anyone hear it said in a loud, aggressive or bad way either.
You wouldn't be human though if you formed an attachment to a housemate for instance, or any celebrity either and not get rather annoyed at unfair criticism or what you perceive as unfair criticism as to them.

Just as people cannot work out my tone from my posts so it is hard for me to sometimes work out the tone likely used in posts that irritate me and we all make posts that will irritate some others at times, that is inevitable.

That is my only problem with forums,it does mean very careful wording may be needed at times but sometimes,if you are in a rush and in the heat of the moment the post made may seem unfriendly when it is never intended to be so.
I am guilty of not realising the tone behind responses to me at times and I am sure that is the case vice versa too.

Anyway, good luck Miranda123, overall on this forum near all the people are really good to know, I hope you enjoy posting all through BB on here.

Perhaps it is because you think other forum users do not know where you are and you feel safe being obnoxious.
You do not need to abuse anyone they are only commenting on BB.

After reading your post, i have a little advice, dont go with "hate". Or react with anger.

If you are on a forum, try to defend a favourite, or stand up for something you believe in. Dont logon to trash someone, it always leaves a bad taste in the mouth. While it always feels better trying to look for the bright side of someones character.

Defending is also easier because "haters" tend to have personal bias reasons. They rarely look past the very obvious. While a supporter can usually list several likeable traits, or points that refute the hateful comments.

So if someone starts slating your favourite, take a deep breath, reread and start to disassemble the other persons post. Bit by bit. Dont get bogged down by the insults. Dont react to people trying to get a rise. Just try to read the words.

And as you have pointed out, "hating" gets you in trouble, even banned, because its easier to lose your temper. A person fueled by personal bias does not always keep the facts/realities of what is/has happened straight. So when someone points out inconsistencies, tempers flair.

Anyway thats my two cents. Pick someone you like and support them on the forums, ignore the comments that are only meant to get a rise out of you, its far less stressful.

Ahh I used to get banned from forums all the time in my teens. Though I don't know if you're a teenager? Anyway yeah... literally clocked up bans into the treble figures. Not for hating or abusing anyone really. Although when I was 14 I did set up a "photo album" of members pictures with a section for anonymous comments... in retrospect, that was a little mean spirited...

Some of it was down to overzealous / biased moderation and rubbing people up the wrong way. And refusing to not swear on a site aimed at teenagers (I was about 14/15). And some people not appreciating my unique brand of humour. But some of it I'd have to admit, I probably deserved a bit of banning on occasion.

You can change your ways, like me, and become a productive and adored forum member!

... watch me end up getting banned from here now. :joker:

Kizzy 19-07-2013 10:51 PM

Well, you're not going to believe this but I have actually been banned from here once or twice.... Just so you know, no matter how amazing you are it's still possible so be careful :)

Jords 19-07-2013 10:52 PM

The way some members post can be infuriating but Ive learnt just to post my opinion then leave the thread and never return :joker:

Mrluvaluva 19-07-2013 10:53 PM

Ha. Great post. It's hard to curb the urge. I admire your honesty and willing!
