Accents influencing opinions?

I really don't want to say this because accents don't tell you anything about a person but every time I hear Sophie talk all I think about is that bloody awful Only Way is Essex programme and it hampers my opinion of her a bit.

Does anyone else have that problem or am I just out of line?

Wolfy's accent grated on me too although it is always good to hear the Northern accents.

well Id say sophies is going against her, sams is too simply because hes harder to understand with his deep accent combined with slight speech issues.....hazels irish accent is sexy but its not working for her in there as she is Lucifer....

Raph 22-07-2013 12:12 PM

Yeah for sure, Sam's accent being Welsh and all makes me like him more than I would had he not had a Welsh accent I suppose. But other than that, not really. If I like a housemate, I think their voice naturally ends up appealing to me and vice-versa for those I don't like

I hate accents need subtitles when they talk.....

calyman 22-07-2013 12:45 PM

To my Scottish ears, it's very strong.

Do you think any of them have an accent that strong that it's hard to understand? I actually don't have a problem understanding any of them this year

billy123 22-07-2013 12:46 PM

I like accents and have no problem understanding anybodys i have no idea how anybody doesnt understand them although most of the time its just conveniently housemates they dont like.

yep sometimes i can't understand what sam or sophie says if they talk fast ....

Ellen 22-07-2013 12:50 PM

I love different accents, dont have a problem understanding any of the Hm's.

Kyle 22-07-2013 12:58 PM

Yeh i have no problem understanding any of them, i just meant that because of Sophie's accent I (rightly or wrongly) automatically thought of TOWIE and all that glam crap and i found it hard to take her seriously at first.

Patrick 22-07-2013 01:53 PM

Sam's accent makes me want to bang my head against a wall and wait until I loose consciousness - it's the most annoying accent I've ever heard on this show.

Imogen, Dave, Rachel etc were all perfectly fine when it came to understanding.

This guy just mumbles and talks complete bollocks.

Sophie's from Canning Town in east London... she's not from Essex.

Coming from up north the accent sounds far too similar to that of Essex girls.

The differences are not significant in terms of accent.

Every housemate with a northern accent reminds me of Geordie Shore.

Oh no, wait.. no they don't. Because even as a southerner I can detect the subtle differences.

The differences are immense. In fact, the slack-jawed laziness of the Essex accent sounds more south London than east London.

There is a massive difference between A Geordie accent and a Sheffield one stop playing devils advocate.

The better comparison would have been a South Yorkshire and a West Yorkshire accent.

Daffodil 22-07-2013 03:00 PM

I have to agree with the OP that Sophie's accent is particularly irritating. I have had a gutful of chirpy cockney-sounding girls...and how comes they always win?

This is a discussion forum. Playing Devil's Advocate is half the fun.

I was making a wild generalisation. I think you know that.

I actually quite like Sophie's accent, the worst one was Jemima's and Gina's is also quite annoying, feels like she puts on a sort of posh twang on the end of words (that might not make much sense but I know what I mean :idc:)
