Doctor Who: The 12th Doctor will be revealed on Sunday

Quote:

The next star of Doctor Who will be revealed in a special live event this Sunday, August 4.

Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor will unveil the 12th Doctor to the nation, with host Zoe Ball interviewing the new Time Lord.

The half-hour show will include live special guests, Doctors old and new, as well as companions and celebrity fans.

Current Doctor Matt Smith and lead writer/executive producer Steven Moffat will both give interviews during the special.

"The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who's taking over the TARDIS," said Moffat. "For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve."

Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, added: "BBC One is the home of big live events and this special live show is the perfect way to reveal the identity of the next Doctor and share it with the nation. The Doctor is a truly iconic role and I'm more than excited about the booking."

Ben Stephenson, Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "We can't wait to unveil the next Doctor with everyone live on BBC1 on Sunday night. Amongst all the speculation and betting, there has been lots of fun and intrigue at work as we've been using the codename Houdini as a decoy!

"It's the biggest secret in showbiz, even those working with the new Doctor on other projects at the moment have no idea they are in the presence of the 12th incarnation."

Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor will be simulcast live on BBC America, with UK and US residents discovering the 12th Doctor's identity together.
I wonder who it will be? I'm hoping the rumours about Ben Whishaw are true, He'd be a good Doctor I think.

Certainly looks like he'd fit the part

Kate! 01-08-2013 11:59 PM

If he's the guy from Skyfall, the new quarter master M, then I say yay. He'd be amazing in the role, great quirky looks and all

can we not have a geeky-looking twink again please

#blackguy or #woman pls

BBfanUSA 02-08-2013 03:18 AM

They're going to be simulcasting it on BBC America as well. That's probably a first

Glenn. 02-08-2013 03:23 AM

Their simulcasting the 50th worldwide too. Over 200 territories.

Can't wait to see who 12 is. Wouldn't it be 13 though, considering the cliffhanger of the finale? :suspect:

Jack_ 02-08-2013 03:38 AM

I don't even watch or like this show but can it be a black woman plz, equality and all that

Preferably this bitch

Marsh. 02-08-2013 04:32 AM

this would be beautiful

Tom4784 02-08-2013 12:05 PM

Peter Capaldi would be amazing but I can't see him doing it.

I couldn't imagine it being a woman either, just from a narrative perspective I don't think it'd make a lot of sense ('hurr durr It's a show about aliens and time travel huhuhuhuhu'). Idris Elba has been rumoured a lot and I'D LOVE IT if he was the Doctor but I don't think it's likely since his star has blown up lately.

Yeah Technically but because of what the John Hurt Doctor did, he's not The Doctor.

I'd rather it be not a woman, it's not like I want to see one as the doctor, I just feel like it's catering to the fans a bit.

Kate! 02-08-2013 12:47 PM

Dr Who should NEVER be a woman, it would just be wrong.

Scarlett. 02-08-2013 03:15 PM

I just hope they're different to Matt Smith, don't get me wrong I liked Matt, but it'd be boring to have another Doctor who is the same as him.

Tregard 02-08-2013 08:19 PM

Peter Capaldi would be incredible, but I don't see BBC going for it.

I wouldn't be angry if it was Sue Perkins, but I would prefer it to stay a male.

It will most likely be someone we've never seen before. I wish we didn't find out until the regeneration :(

Wow they really like recasting people alot. (Freema Aygeman was in the New Series 2 finale. Karen Gilligan was a seer in the Fires of Pompeii, Peter was in the TW: Children of Earth Miniseries and was also the father of the family that the Doctor saved in Fires of Pompeii.)

Roy Mars III 05-08-2013 01:53 PM

yes yes yes yes yes

:worship:

amazing new, just amazing. Perfect casting. Finally the chance to have a good Doctor for the new series.

it won't be, just as much chance of James Bond being a woman

DanaC 13-08-2013 03:54 PM

Could not be happier.

Capaldi has been at the top of my list of perfect actors for the part for a long time :)

Disagree with this. I've loved them all, classic and new. With the possible exception of Pertwee...even though I did like him, I didn't like that era of Who.
