Ofcom send letter to Channel 4 voicing concerns about their declining audience share.
Looks like Channel 5 is set to take their crown as the 4th most watched channel.
Main points taken from an article printed in todays Guardian. Channel 4 has seen the biggest loss of audience reach among the UK's five main public service broadcasting networks in the last six years, according to a report from Ofcom. The media regulator, which in June sent a letter to the broadcaster voicing concerns about issues including the audience share of Channel 4's main network, on Thursday said it was the worst performer in comparison with BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and Channel 5 since 2007 in terms of average weekly reach Ofcom said that BBC1 remained stable over the same time period (78%), as did Channel 5 (40% to 39%), while ITV fell (70% to 64%) and did BBC2 (58% to 52%). Ofcom added in its letter. "Viewing of the service remains important to their delivery and public value." Ofcom's report on Thursday pointed out that in terms of share of viewing the flagship Channel 4 network has fallen from 9% in 2007 to 6% in 2012. This excludes Channel 4+1, which launched in August 2007 – last year the service had a 0.9% share. Whoops |
LOL, just amazing.

lmao poor them
|
Looks like they do need Big Brother after all
|
They dumped Big Brother - they deserve to go under. I don't watch anything on C4.
 |
The only Channel 4 show that I like is 24 Hours in A&E, nothing else on it interests me. It really isn't very good. They might not have liked Big Brother and its reputation but they clearly needed it far more than they realised before they got rid of it!
|
Thing is, it can't just be big brother that's made the ratings for the channel fall through the floor - it's a factor, but it must be a combination of bad programming and poor series ideas.

What do you expect with shows centering around poking fun at disabled people, like dwarfs and those struggling to get a date. That's not entertainment. Also, they have plans to have live coverage from a public toilet. I mean that is gutter television. |

They have had some critically acclaimed programmes lately but people have just switched off it seems.
The Returned, The Mill, Southcliffe which have done quite well in the ratings but most of their programming just isn't pulling in the viewers. Channel 5 is obviously ahead as its getting a good audience share nightly from BB but other programmes like The Hotel Inspector, Cowboy Traders, CSI and their home made documentaries are now sitting comfortable above the 1 million mark where as Channel 4 only has a few hit shows broadcast once a week. Example last night at 10pm last night Channel 5 Big Brother got 1.6 (excluding +1) (9.9% share) Channel 4 Legally High 547k (3.4%) at 10pm Channel 4 have just had a huge summer campaign which flopped spectacularly Mating Season Gok Live Bedtime Live 10 O’Clock Live Its pretty embaressing that last night their 10pm show had 547k (3.4%) when a late night spin off show at 11pm (Bit on the Side) got 664k (7.8%) |
Last thing on watched on C4 was Derek, which was great imo.
|
Channel 5 will fall once CBB is over, C4 always have a decent autumn/winter- under the current regime though C5 and C4 will be tied during A/W. Really hope this year C5 puts out a more imaginative Christmas Day schedule than endless Trucks and Trailers and beat C4!
|
I bet you any money that C4 will bid for it back during the next bidding season and Channel 5 will still keep it.

Channel 4 will never bid for BB again they have already made to many "we are taking a more creative route" statements to back track now.
And what quality home grown creative programmes they have. Their new show will see them broadcasting live from a clubs toilets and their others, a reality show based in a chicken shop and another based on putting kids to bed live on tv (creepy). Very creative. |

BB ended in September 2010 and averaged 3 million and its replacement 7 Days launched 2 months later averaging about about 600k I think. Channel 4 blamed the marketing but the fact is it was a dreadful show and there was so much hype for it. |
