The release dates for PlayStation 4 have been revealed.

At the end of Sony's gamescom press conference, which took place today (August 20), it was confirmed that the next-gen system will launch in November.

The console will first be available in North America on November 15, followed by a November 29 release in Europe.

The company also announced that the PS4 will be released in a total of 32 countries during the holiday season.

Sony and Twitch have announced a new partnership for the PlayStation 4 that will bring users even closer to streaming and viewing game-focused content. The Share button on the Dual Shock 4 might as well be called the "Twitch" button.

The pair have announced that simply by hitting the button on the PlayStation 4 controller, users can immediately start streaming to their Twitch channels. In addition, the PlayStation 4's user interface will allow gamers to view content from other broadcasters.

Twitch currently has 38 million unique viewers per month and over 600,000 broadcasters. The partnerships with both Sony and Microsoft will make it easier for the console-focused segment to connect with Twitch's platform.

At the February PlayStation 4 reveal, Sony mentioned working with Ustream for game sharing services. We've reached out to Sony to clarify whether Twitch is a supplement to the social aspect of the new console or a replacement.

Good news! Adding Twitch support is quite a big deal, though I do feel sorry for Ustream who thought they might finally be able to top Twitch, lol.

Wonder when xBox releases then. So far PS4 looks the better console, but xBox has some great exclusives for me as a FIFA/COD fan lol.

Alot of the games Microsoft are touting as exclusive right now are simply timed, buyer beware!

I think in the long run the PS4 exclusives will surpass the One.

We haven't even got the new Quntam/Naughty Dog projects released yet or Little Big Planet.

Can't wait for this tbh, just hope my brother has stuck to his word, he said he'd never go for the XBoxOne :joker:

Sony have said 30 exclusives for PS4 during it's first year, 18 (I think?) of which are new IPs.

Brother Leon 20-08-2013 10:32 PM

Yeah. The most interesting thing for me is Dedicated Servers on COD for xBox. That may actually make the game playable again, but at the moment PS4 still looks the better purchase.

i'll probably pick up an xbox eventually..that gamertag has been through so much i can't just drop it lol

Fergal Gara, Sony Computer Entertainment's UK and Ireland managing director has revealed that Sony's pre-order numbers in the UK are the highest they've seen in 20 years in the business.

"Andy [House] quoted a number last night for pre-orders, in fact he quoted a low end number, he said 'in excess of'", Gara told GamesIndustry International this morning.

"The UK represents a significant proportion of that, we're talking unprecedented levels of pre-orders that we haven't seen in 20 years in this business.

"There's nothing better in any form of business than when customers are rewarding you with their custom and it's absolutely true to say, particularly since E3, gamers have been rewarding us with their commitment and their pre-orders," added Gara.

"We don't allow ourselves to get in any way smug or complacent but yes we are confident, and that's a good place to be."

It's not a surprise, Microsoft have blown their chances of a good start and a lot of Xbox Players are planning on switching to the PS4. It'll be the reverse of this generation, Microsoft will have to play catch up for most of the upcoming generation.

Ryan57 22-08-2013 11:21 PM

Pre-ordered one today along with an Xbox. Just need to decide on which to go for now.

Wish Sony had shown less Indie and more first party titles.

Scarlett. 22-08-2013 11:22 PM

Thing about pre-ordering now, is it isnt gaurenteed for release date delivery.

I think the showing Indie titles is a great move, both PR wise and generally game wise.

Indeed. That was the kick in the teeth I discovered today. However, it appears the One doesn't have those issues, so I'd at least be able to get one at their respective launches. Hoping that it's just a sort of 'cover their back' type of thing (yes, clutching at straws). Hoping Shopto will get a good enough allocation.

Wish I'd pre-ordered back in February now, just so I'd be guaranteed one. Good ol' hindsight.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an Indie fan. With that said, I just wished more first party titles had been shown. I currently am only interested in Knack at launch. :(

That game above looks really pretty and nice...

Sort of reminds me of Journey, same producers?
