Any Midwives On The Forum?

I've decided I'd like to be a midwife! Are there any midwives on the forum? Or does anybody know anybody who is a midwife?
I want to know how difficult the course is.. I don't have any problem with learning and taking in information, but I'm not great at essay writing. It's actually essays that put me off any kind of college/uni course actually.

If you really set your mind to it you can do anything Lee! You'd make a great midwife :)

Aww thanks jack! :) I actually think it would be such a rewarding job (sad at times I'm sure) but the 3 years studying worries me.. I don't know if I can cope with the essay writing

It is worth a try though, once you get into the swing of writing essays you will find it gradually easier then at the end you get a rewarding job out of it!

My friend wants to be a Midwife, she's going to be doing the same course as me at college so she can go on to do the degree. :)

How do you treat a woman with an unhygienic flower?

Vicky. 31-08-2013 09:57 PM

I would love to do this but I don;t think I could deal wit the bad/sad side of it. I know after a while you would get 'used' to it..and its not often something goes wrong compared to happy(if painful  ) times but I just don't think I could handle it at all.

Takes a very strong person to work in the caring profession. And thats not me.

According to this you need 5 GCSEs and a couple of A levels to start the midwifery course http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/explore...-requirements/

Good luck if you decide to go ahead with it. Such a rewarding job :)

I'd tell her to get her **** together and wash regularly. Then I would buy her a new flower

you need ALevels/BTEC to get onto a degree, we're doing BTEC Level 3 Medical Science to get into uni on a related course (Midwifery is one of them).

It's the sad and tragic side of it that puts me off it tbh.. But as you say, you can get used to anything.. I'd imagine the first few horrible situations are the worst. I really do think it would be so rewarding and I'd get to cuddle lots of babies!

Scottish qualifications are different.. We do standard grades and highers which are the equivalent of gcses and a levels I think... I reckon I could go straight into the 3 year degree course.. I'd need to check though

... Oh and I need to learn to drive first

If you're a mature student as long as you have maths English and science you should be ok, or you might have to do an access course for a year before going on to do the degree.
I think that nursing degrees are free but I'm not sure :)

University education is free in Scotland anyway, so that's not a prob.. I've got 7 standard grades and 4 highers so I don't think I'd have to do an access course, I'd need to check though.. The main thing I'd need is a driving licence! :( nobody will ever be safe on the road again!

Benjamin 31-08-2013 11:17 PM

Oh Lord, Lee driving....
