"Live" eviction shows -Ad Breaks.

They seem to be flouting OFCOM's rules on permitted advertising limits, more and more they seem to go from Ad break to Ad break in the space of 7/8 minutes when the minimum statutory period is 20 minutes at least, between Ad Breaks. It's frustrating as hell but they do it all the time.

"On the commercial channels, the amount of airtime allowed by the UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom for advertising is an overall average of 7 minutes per hour, with limits of 12 minutes for any particular clock hour (8 minutes per hour between 6pm and 11pm)"

I was lucky, I watched my recording last night. Watched it till 4 in the morning.

Do OFCOM keep an eye on these things or only check when viewers complain ?

Seems like they only act if they get complaints, but viewers have no idea of the regulations!

I have never watched an hour long programme with 7 minutes of adverts. Which source is that?

Promos for upcoming programs don't count as paid advertising but are no less irritating.

They sure as hell are, every eviction show sometimes LESS than five minutes and "See you after the break" or "back in 4 minutes"

Tozzie 07-09-2013 05:44 PM

the ads get longer and longer, last night it was 'back in 4'

For the past few evictions I have been recording the show and watching it the next morning at about 7am.

No adverts, no waffle. Bliss. :D

Have you noticed that it you cut the ads, plus Emma's blabbering and the phone numbers being repeated... You can actually watch the whole eviction show plus interview in about 30-40 mins?

daniel-lewis-1985 07-09-2013 06:36 PM

Hmm seems they are pushing the limit especially when Emma advertises "come back in 4 minutes" whenever theres a break and there are atleast 5 ad breaks during the course of the evictions.

Some highlights even go to ad breaks after less than 5 minutes which is so ****ing rude.

Not just ****ing rude it's Ch 5 sticking two fingers up to the viewers and to OFCOM "your fcuking regulations don't mean jack**** to us"

Can we not all make a mass complaint to OFCOM ?

Regarding viewers not knowing - i've asked several people and it seems no one has a clue !

Surely OFCOM should be keeping a check on the basics of Advertising ! as the fines they can impose is surely good revenue - seems to me another bunch of people who earn bloody good pay and do bugger all for it !!

Yeah lets not all complain to Ofcom lol.

TBF the more ads the more revenue for the show.

Absolutely!

Another thing that bugs me is the extended 'previously' and 'tonight' highlights at the start of each show. Add those to the ad breaks and you've got a programme that's half a long as advertised.
