Exercising With a Cold?

Good idea or not? I'm choked with the cold, got a horrible stuffy nose and a chesty cough.. Is it wise to try a workout this evening?

Z 10-09-2013 02:09 PM

I find it helps alleviate the symptoms of a cold but it is really tough going, just keep yourself really well hydrated and go for it Lee!

Kizzy 10-09-2013 02:09 PM

No, you would be doing yourself more harm than good I think lee.

AnnieK 10-09-2013 02:09 PM

I know you shouldn't run with a cold as your breathing is impaired and so you don't get enough oxygen to your muscles and you end up cramping....if you're going to the gym you should just the steam room, that'll sort it right out!

Kizzy 10-09-2013 02:11 PM

Don't infect everyone in the steam room, if you have a virus stay home let your body have the energy to fight it, relax! :)

AnnieK 10-09-2013 02:12 PM

YEah - good point actually Kizzy. Lee - get a brew, a duvet and your feet up on the couch

Kizzy 10-09-2013 02:17 PM

Are you a bit off your food too lee?

Jake. 10-09-2013 02:59 PM

I wouldn't bother myself, being ill leaves you feeling weak as it is.. use it as an excuse to have a cuppa on the sofa tbh

Josy 10-09-2013 03:00 PM

I wouldn't do a harsh workout Lee..

Maybe wrap up warm and go for a walk? or just have a day off.

MTVN 10-09-2013 03:09 PM

Yes, will help you push through it

Verbal 10-09-2013 03:33 PM

Wouldnt do you much harm, although you risk infecting everyone in the gym with your germs which is not very considerate, same with the steam room.

If you've been taking medication for it exercising could make you feel worse and in extreme cases could land you in hospital with heart problems.

Stay in bed

Lol @ the thought of me in a gym!!

I'm talking about a home workout.. A jump about in front of the telly! It is really hard going though.

Josy I can barely move today after 2 days if the 30DC!! Would it maybe help a bit just to give it a try? I can't unbend my arms and walking up and down the stairs in interesting!

You could try if your brave

I wouldn't do the shred with a cold though it's too intense.

Some people do 2 days on 1 day off of the shred btw and it still works, Jillian Michaels said herself that she doesn't advise anyone to do it 30 days straight without giving their muscles a rest.

After your 4th day doing the shred the soreness will disappear.

Lee. 10-09-2013 04:49 PM

I do hope you're right josy! I'm walking about like a T-Rex

Lee. 10-09-2013 04:58 PM

A hideous workout DVD kizzy.. It's called The 30 Day Shred.

Locke. 10-09-2013 05:06 PM

Time to stop making excuses and do it :nono:

Josy 10-09-2013 05:09 PM

Kizzy this is level 1 just to give you an idea

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Pc-NizMgg8

The full DVD is 3 levels of workouts. Each level is less than 30 minutes, including warmup and cooldown stretches.

Most people do 10 days at Level 1, then 10 at level 2 then 10 at level 3 but you can wait until you feel ready before moving on.

You use a pair of hand weights and a mat.

I love Jillian she's a machine

Kizzy 10-09-2013 05:11 PM

Thanks, will have a look :D
