After being sent around the world three times for the BAFTAŽ-nominated hit series An Idiot Abroad, Karl Pilkington is going it alone on a journey of self-discovery.

Now Karl has turned 40 and officially hit middle age, he’s ready to reassess his life. Sky 1 HD’s new five-part documentary series Karl Pilkington: The Moaning Of Life, which starts on Sunday 20th October at 9pm, will see him set off around the world to experience how other cultures face up to life’s big issues as he makes plans for his future.

Karl will explore five topics over the course of the series – Marriage, Happiness, Kids, Vocation and Death, travelling to places such as the USA, India, Japan, South Africa, Mexico and Taiwan. There he will meet a range of people from all walks of life as he looks at the different ways their cultures celebrate or deal with what life throws at them.

Karl Pilkington explained: “I’ve been on the planet for 40 years now, and I’m still none the wiser as to what it’s all about really. I've never worried about life’s big questions. People at my age sit about pondering about ‘why are we here?’ The only time I ever asked meself that is when Suzanne booked us a surprise holiday to Lanzarote."

Without Warwick 3rd series of Idiot Abroad would have been ****e.

There's always one . Been a fan of his now since the first podcasts in '05, don't think I ever will be.

Warwick was the weak element to the third series, Karl's funniest when he's moaning to himself unquestioned. Warwick's constant picking at everything he said and playing up to the camera for laughs took slightly from it. Though it was still brilliant television.

I don't think it was the show that got stale, it only ran for 2 full series, series 3 was intended as a finishing christmas special, but Sky's repeating of it, like Channel 4 with Friends, they over did (and still do) it, that said, unlike Friends, I still laugh several times everytime, even though I know off by heart what's coming. I do prefer his animated series though, and do think they should have stuck with the original plan for series 2 of sending him to the natural wonders rather than making him do a bucket list, Karl's funniest when he's interested in and questioning things, which is the case with Moaning Of Life, so hopefully should be really good.

Wasn't aimed specifically at you, but at the general fickleness towards any popular show / film series / band that go beyond a second series / film / album in this country, particularly comedy. We seem to have a very short national attention span.

That's the Eifel tower that is. It's bloody big isn't it. Why would anyone want to climb that?

Nope, brilliant. Won't reveal too much in case you want to wait till it airs but theme of the episode is marriage and dating, Karl has to meet a potential bride and her family about a possible arranged marriage between them :D.

Each episode has a theme, but there are a few scenarios related to that theme explored. As for when it airs, Sunday, but the first ep is available now On Demand on Sky and on Sky Go online.

..I'll probably wait until Sunday because I'm watching lots of things atm and trying to catch up but from what you've said it's going to be something to look forward to...even though I think the Idiot Abroad got a little tired towards the end, I don't think that was Karl, just the programme ..his lack of enthusiasm over everything and cynic in him always make me smile...

The first two series were brilliant but the addition of Warwick in series 3 spoilt it slightly, he kept mugging to the camera and picking Karl up on everything he said and the special treatment he got made you fully sympathise with Karl rather than laugh at the things he said. The form of rants in Moaning are about the topics rather than what he's doing and the locations, so it adds a new dynamic to it.

Sid - have you downloaded the old xfm radio shows they did years ago? If you haven't, then you really should. You hear Karl go from someone who they talk to a couple of times throughout the show, to becoming the star of it!

Yeah, they're brilliant. Especially Karl's ill thought out features :D.
