15yr old girl raped by car driver who offered her a lift...

A 15-year-old girl has been raped by a man who picked her up in his car after claiming that he knew her.

The teenager was walking in Shilton Park, Carterton, Oxfordshire, between 2am and 4am on Saturday when she was approached by the man driving a small silver car

The man told the victim that he knew her and offered to take her home. He then drove to her to an unknown location where he raped her.

The incident was reported to Thames Valley Police yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Jim Holmes, of Banbury CID, said: "We are supporting the victim in every way we can.

"After reporting the incident, the victim was taken to a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) where she was looked after by trained professionals and given access to support networks.

"This is clearly a very concerning incident and I am appealing for anyone who was in the Carterton area in the early hours of Saturday morning to come forward if they saw the victim, or the car described, either prior to the incident or from 2am onwards.

"We have a team of officers following up inquiries and are keen to speak to anyone who can assist us with this investigation."

..ughhh, I hate to say it but why oh why was a 15yr old walking home alone at that hour...and accepting a lift from a stranger...poor thing but just so wrong...

Terrible.

Why on earth was a 15yo girl out alone between 2am and 4am though?

..yeah, that was my thoughts..even when my boys were a lot older, I would occasionally get a text to say that there was a big wait for taxis so they would walk home instead and I always went to pick them up because I didn't like that idea..I wouldn't do it myself, so wouldn't want anyone else to do it, let alone my child..it does seem so wrong at her age...

How do you convince someone that they know you?

DanaC 25-09-2013 09:39 AM

When I was that age, my mate and I would occasionally tell our parents we were staying at each other's houses and then go off to clubs which we were far too young to be at.

This girl's parents may have thought she was tucked up safe.

@ Jesus: maybe convince that you are a friend of their parent. Or that you are the parent of a schoolmate.

..yeah, that's true Dana, it'll be interesting knowing more and if that was the case how she got separated from her friends and ended up alone in the early hours...I think wondering why she was out alone is a question that has to be posed but the full facts need to be known now...

Too drunk to know maybe. Too tired to care.

First mistake is walking about alone at that time of the morning.

Poor girl.

Strange one this. She must have been off her head on alcohol, he said he knew her :conf: but she obviously didn't know him and she got in the car, and the time she was out on her own walking?

You go to "blah" school, yeah? Oh, so you'll know Dave then, yeah? No, oh maybe you'll know who Tom is then? We're really good mates, he talks about you all the time. I think saw you at a party of his a few months back. Remember? I don't think it's safe for you to be out at this time, I can drop you off at yours if you like?

lol maybe not that, but I imagine he was very charming and used a 'friend of a friend' approach.

Marc 25-09-2013 04:42 PM

Christ.. why would you take up the offer at that time.. or maybe she was forced in?

Very sad. I'm 18 and still don't like walking home alone during the night on the odd occasion when I have to do it...there's absolutely no way I would at 15. And I'm a guy.

My first thought too...

Maybe tell them you're the parent or older brother of someone else at her school. Or claim to be a friend of her Dad's from work who has maybe seen her with her dad. Claim to live on the same street, recently moved in. Lots of ways someone might know / recognise you without you necessarily knowing them.

..yeah I do understand what someone might say but with all the safety awareness taught in schools and hopefully at home as well, it still seems odd that she would get in the cart of her own free will....

Maybe she had too much to drink. :(

I wonder if he was young, not much older than her.

I remember when I used to go out with people from school and you'd have so many people coming from different areas you'd end up with friends of friends of friends so you'd end up with people you don't actually know.

Maybe he charmed his way in by pretending to be mates with her mates from school or whatever. They haven't caught him so he might turn out to be from an extended group of friends.

..yeah, I guess because it states 'man' and not 'youth' we assume he's much older, which might not be the case and I'm sure in the scenario you said then it's more understandable that she could go with him...I'll be really interested to know more about this....

The guy could be anywhere from 17 years old to an old man; there are a lot of variables... the girl could have easily been totally sober - but if someone's acting like they know you and is offering you a lift at that time then it's not too shocking to imagine jumping in the car... be interested to find out more information about this, feel sorry for the girl!

Amy Jade 25-09-2013 10:35 PM

Scary, that's why I only accept lifts off family.
