Last time this went down was 1995.

There is no blame for Harry Reid here. The right wing tea-partiers have basically said that unless Democrats undo health care reform, then there will be no budget.

This is over a continuing resolution to pay the bills that America has already racked up. Congress authorises all spending before it happens, but now they want to hold the president hostage to try and get him to repeal his own historic healthcare law.

Obamacare has been law since 2010, since which time there has been a presidential election, where Romney said the thing he would do on day one, is repeal Obamacare. Congress passed the bill, the senate passed the bill, and then the president signed it into law. Then the people voted in 2012.

The republican right wing are insane, and if they do this when the debt limit is up, then the whole world economy will be thrown into chaos.

This is a tea party attack on government. They constantly spew bile about killing government, and now this is their effort.

I'm not sure how one follows the other. This is a tea-party temper tantrum. If they really believed that the healthcare law was so bad, why don't they cheer for it's implementation and reap the rewards when the merde hits the fan?

What a wonderful Political system the US has, one party threatening to bring down the whole Government and possibly the World's Economy because they can't get their way.

I see it's the Mad as a Hatter Tea party that are behind all of this... my sympathies for the working peoples of the US, to have been born into and brought up in a once great Country which promoted all the right morals and values, a shining beacon for the rest of the World to follow.

Now ending up as nasty, dirty cesspit of a country where Capitalism has utterly destroyed all forms of social cohesion and an unelected elite run riot destroying generations of well grounded law making, forcing their criminal , war making agenda on the masses just to reap illegal corporate profits and then retire to their luxury gated communities while the rest of the population fight for scraps living in trailor parks.

The Tea Party will wreck the world economy on principle and will not blink. They have the power and the resolution to see this through to the bitter end and beyond.

Obama should have known this from when Hillary Clinton tried and failed to reform the healthcare system.

This is akin to a gun toting mugger who will cheerfully machine gun you without batting an eyelid, demanding you wallet, jewellery, smart phone a trainers. By right of force they belong to him, and you have to hand them over to him.

After Obama has been made to scrap Obamacare, he, and the vice president must resign, in favour of the republican party.

This woman (or Terrorist as the US authorities will now call her) had apparently driven the wrong way in a one way street and ended up in an altercation with Washington Police after which she did seem to lose all sense of perspective, however with a child in the car the police perhaps could have tried to calm things down before going in all guns blazing and killing this woman.

I have a horrible feeling in the days to come that we will see this as a very sad story in which this woman "lost the plot" BUT her course of action ultimately cost her her life. American police these days tend to shoot first and ask questions later....in fact they don't even ask questions later, they just enjoy firing their big guns at anything that moves.

Another day another stupid senseless shooting in the Good ol US of A...

Police training in the US consists mainly of trying to eat as many Doughnuts as possible in 60 seconds.....IMHO !!!!

It's insane that a bunch of wanker politicians can make the a whole country's government shut down, just because they can't get their own way. It's pathetic.

The only good that will come out of this is that Republicans have destroyed their chances of maintaining control of the House of Representatives after next year's elections.
