No Deadlock confirmed by Dermot

X Factor 2013: Dermot O’Leary talks flash vote & reveals there’s NO deadlock!

Dermot O’Leary has revealed that there will be no deadlock situations arising on tomorrow night’s X Factor results show.

This evening the final 12 acts will perform on the live stage for the first time, hoping to win enough votes to help them avoid elimination on the Sunday night show.

Sam Bailey, Lorna Simpson, Shelley Smith, Kingsland Road, Miss Dynamix, Rough Copy, Sam Callahan, Nicholas McDonald, Luke Friend, Tamera Foster, Hannah Barret and Abi Alton are all furiously rehearsing their 80s tracks as we speak, in the knowledge that one of them will never get to perform on the series ever again.

The voting system will be a little different this year, with a ten minute flash vote taking place this evening to begin with. Voters will get the chance to pick their favourite then, and the act finishing at the bottom will be placed in Sunday’s singoff.

The voting lines will reopen after the result is revealed, with another act being chosen overnight for the bottom two.

In a brand new interview with 5 Live host Dermot O’Leary revealed that his job is being made a lot easier this year because bosses have also decided to do away with the deadlock situation.

No longer will the judges be able to procrastinate over their choice for elimination and throw the decision back to the public after an intense period of debate.

Dermot said:

“There is an interesting thing this year where we have a flash vote. We open the phonelines at the end of the show for about ten minutes and people vote. Then, whoever finishes bottom of that is guaranteed a place – I say that like it’s a good thing but it’s not! – in tomorrow night’s song off, so no matter what happens they’ll be one member of the bottom two.”

O’Leary added:

“They’ll have to sing for survival tomorrow night and there is no deadlock, which as you can imagine, I am over the moon about!

Deadlock is very much the bane of my life.”

Still no word on how a tied vote is going to be resolved though I'm assuming it'll be with the Flash Vote loser as reported, which is not only unfair but extremely anti-climatic. The more I hear about this new voting system the more I hate it, it's going to ruin the results show :(

RIP amazing TV moments like this  (3:05 onwards)

This was the best deadlock. Both were great singers and shouldn't have been in the bottom and then both girls broke down at the results.

Cba to find a video, but the Jedward/Lucie one was the worst. Loved Lucie and had never been more pissed off with X Factor.

No cheering that his act 'Hope' were still in. They were the massive faves to get the boot.

Well Sunday night will be pretty pointless then.

All it takes is for 2 judges to vote against the flash vote loser and they're automatically out, because even if the other 2 vote against the sunday loser, the flash vote loser will still go home. What an anti-climax.

joeysteele 12-10-2013 03:31 PM

Oh for goodness sake, just leave it all to the public vote and do away with judges having any saty as to who goes out once and for all.

They are also mentoring the acts for goodness sake, that means halfof the judges automatically have theri votes decided no matter what the final sing off performances are like.

It drives me mad, just have a sing off at the start of Sunday's show and open the lines again and let the public say who goes out.

Boring, the deadlock dramas were the best bit of the show

Marsh. 12-10-2013 03:36 PM

Bring back the 30 minute results show on a Saturday night.

They've made the extra Sunday night show more pointless than it already was, especially if the flash vote loser automatically goes home in a tie.

Someone raised a good point on DS the other day in that the third voter will have a lot of power (this is assuming the vote is 1-1 based on the judges saving their own acts as usual), as if they opt to send home the Flash Vote loser, they will be going home regardless of how the fourth judge votes. Now I'd say it's likely many of the third voters won't be brave enough to do that so if they send home the 24 hour vote loser, effectively the fourth voters vote is worth two and they take on what is essentially a 'Head Judge' role, since even if they tie the vote, that will send the Flash Vote loser home...which is just illogical, how can a tied vote end up in that vote being the deciding one? There's no sense to that.

This idea really hasn't been thought through properly.

I believe as part of the terms of the legal case Simon Fuller and Pop Idol brought against X Factor back in 2004 was that to distinguish the two shows the 'bottom two' format had to remain and thus the judges vote, or else the two shows could be considered identical. The terms also included the category format too, so there isn't really any way around it.

This.

Results shows are going to be so dull now. 90% of the time the flash vote victim is outta here.

Jack_ 12-10-2013 03:42 PM

The best bit of X Factor live shows have always been 8:50 onwards on a Sunday night, the judges vote and a potential deadlock have been one of the best bits of TV of the week :( now we're going to go into it knowing what the result of a tie will be

And it's not just that either, if it is true the flash vote loser goes home I think that's really unfair...so you leave the competition because you lost a ten minute vote the previous night? How silly

Jamesy 12-10-2013 04:08 PM

If it is a case of the flash vote loser going home if there is a tie then that's going to make the Sunday show even more pointless now. I never saw the point in it beforehand, although this just makes it even more of a waste. I wonder if viewing figures may be affected by this new format (I doubt it though).

Someone's fate being based on a 10 minute vote is pretty pointless too. I can see the word 'fix' being branded around a lot depending on how this pans out.

Jack_ 12-10-2013 04:10 PM

Yeah I really hope they have big technical difficulties and viewers don't respond well to it and they scrap it a few weeks in :amazed:
