Time for some safeguards over the direct publishing of ebooks.

i don't see the problem. it's not actually harming anyone. there are many women and men who are into rape role-play, just like many people are into slavery role play. that's what S/M is. slavery is just as vile as rape, right?

Surely incest should be in the family section?

They were removed after the Whole Site was closed yesterday

You could search "Daddy"
and hard core sex Daddy books were there.

These references are everywhere, parents need to be open and honest with their children and help them to put these things in context, not cower away from it out of embarrassment and bury their heads in the sand. Kids are going to encounter this stuff. If they understand the context (essentially, that some people are into some seriously messed up stuff) then they aren't going to be "damaged" by it, or think it's normal.

People wrap children in cotton wool and as a result they grow up ignorant and blinkered. People shut these "taboo" things away and try to hide the key and, in the process, they MAKE them more alluring to curious teenagers who would otherwise laugh and ignore them.

I kind of agree in theory, but then it's that same attitude that causes so many gay teenagers to commit suicide because their parents have brought them up to believe that homosexuality isn't normal and is something to be ashamed of. If you're into rape fantasies or S&M or any other fetish under the sun, that can't be helped any more than you can help what your sexual orientation or skin colour is. You are who you are.

^ I'm not so sure about that, aren't fetishes more a case of nurture over nature

Yeah but once you've established that something turns you on, you can't just suddenly stop finding it attractive. It's the same as Catholic guilt, forcing a purist view of the world onto a young person and then when they start growing up and discover things that they weren't taught about, they're going to be riddled with guilt because they've been told it's wrong and they don't fundamentally think it's wrong.

lostalex 15-10-2013 12:19 PM

The point is, it's just words, why are murder novels allowed then? isn't murder bad too?

South Park recently did an episode about all of the murder mystery TV shows even calling it "murder porn".

Kizzy 15-10-2013 06:56 PM

Fgs!!
Don't say as parents we have to allow exposure to sick deviance and fetishism to raise well rounded sexually healthy adults... That is the single most ridiculous thing I have EVER read, and on here that's an achievement.

We don't, but actively saying anything to do with sex is "weird and wrong" can riddle teenagers with guilt. Just a hypothetical scenario - taking it back to what this is actually about, I think it's inappropriate for WH Smith to be selling what is essentially porn

Mystic Mock 15-10-2013 07:00 PM

The thing is what was people doing searching Daddy into the sites search engine in the first place if they wasn't expecting to find something dirty?

Plus Lostalex is right it's not hurting anyone so those books should not be banned imo.

You misunderstand me, I'm not advocating pressing opinions on them - just allowing them to explore and understand all aspects of the weird and wonderful world without hiding things away or making them "off limits". It would be more a case of, "there's no such thing as normal, some people like things that others find weird, so long as no ones getting hurt these things are totally subjective". There are literally no topics of.conversation off limits in our family...

All I'm saying is, that you can MAKE these things into unhealthy obsessions specifically by trying to censor them and hide them away, as a lot of parents do, and as people seem to be inclined to let the government do for us now (with net censorship via the ISPs).

Incest is wrong by definition though zee, nobody is, could or should say sex is wrong.
There is a plethora of information now for anyone confused about sexuality, this is not acceptable or excusable by a high street online retailer.

Ah my mistake! That's fair enough! I agree, hiding things away just makes the temptation even greater, and that can be anything from a bar of chocolate to pornography...

I agree, I just thought it was comparable to a religious upbringing when you're told there's only one correct way to do things and anything out of the ordinary was inherently wrong... but I was going off in a tangent

Kizzy 15-10-2013 08:18 PM

Which is why I love the way your mind works... Out of the box and running off down the road
