Final Fantasy studio Square Enix has founded a task force to oversee the ongoing quality of the RPG series.

The 'Final Fantasy Committee' consists of a group of high-profile developers who will assume control of the creative direction of the franchise.

The committee will consist of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn director Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy Type-0 boss Hajime Tabata, Final Fantasy XIII head Motomu Toriyama, and Final Fantasy VII director Yoshinori Kitase.

Veteran character designer and creative producer Tetsuya Nomura is either not involved in the venture, or is attached in a limited capacity, according to FF-Reunion.

Square Enix has confirmed the existence of the committee and has promised to deliver "more information shortly".

The next core entry in the series, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, will be released for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2014.

Fantastic idea, IMO, this is long overdue. Plus it's very good to see Yoshida in the team, as his work on A Realm Reborn was fantastic.

if only Sakaguchi was still pulling the strings, this wouldn't be needed.

Good, the series has been gradually going downhill after X

I think XIII/The first XIV was the low point, the series has been slowly improving since then, with XIII-2 and XIV: A Realm Reborn. Lightning Returns and XV are looking great too.

it's no surprise that when Sakaguchi left he produced better RPGS then FFXII and FFXIII, Lost Odyssey arguably is the greatest RPG on the Xbox 360 and The Last Story is possibly the greatest game available on the Wii

Final Fantasy XII was a pretty decent game IMO, even if it has the worst protagonist in the series (Vaan)
