Has anyone had experience with rigid contact lenses
OK well I'm getting RGP (rigid gas permeable) lenses soon because the diameter of my iris is too wide for the soft ones :( it also costs £140 :( on the plus though I don't have to give monthly payments and they last for a year
but anyway apparently they're really uncomfortable for the first few weeks you wear them and they take time to get used to, because it's basically plastic sitting on your eyes unlike soft lenses which are made of water I think. so can anyone who's worn them before tell me what they're like Why do my eyes have to be so weird ugh, it's not even guaranteed that the rigid contacts will fit :/ |

A friend of mine used to wear them but had to stop when it cut into his eyeball and he had quite a bad infection. He had to wear a patch for about six months, it left a scar and he gets bad headaches now

I remember the first time I wore hard contacts, I couldn't get them out of my eyes and I had to go to A and E to get them out.

..but don't worry Salman, don't let that 'hard' word worry you because they're been prescribed because they're right for you and if you do have problems then go straight back to the optician and she'll check them over and if it persists, she'll try you on something else...for me they're also better because they let air to my eye, which the soft ones didn't and otherwise your eyes become dry and can get infections easily...honestly, I'm sure you'll be ok....the only trickier bit as Cherie says, can be getting them out but my optician showed me 'the knack' and then it was so simple...ask her about that and practise a few times with her.... ..oh sorry, it could be a 'him'..mines a her..... |
did you continue wearing them tho

Only wear them when you need to to, never ever fall asleep wearing them and make sure you clean them thoroughly!
And be careful when putting them in/out,clean hands. |

they've FINALLY been manufactured + delivered to my opticians (yes, I ordered them before this thread was made, it took that long) and I'm getting them fit tomorrow, sooo nervous D:

So I went this morning and it really hurt at first, the right eye was a perfect fit but on the left one it kinda rolls around, but I think it's fine. It feels like having an eyelash in your eye but instead of one a hundred, my eyes were bloodshot and there were so much tears but anyway it slowly got better and I'm gonna wear them for an hour tomorrow, two hours the next day etc to get used to them. The lady was really impressed with my technique of putting it on although it took me 15 minutes to take it out from my right eye
