T* 20-10-2013 03:40 PM

People were objecting to the coven Smithy  I wanted to call it that too.

Glenn. 20-10-2013 03:42 PM

Smithy blame Ammi and Marc. They didn't want Coven :idc:

Josy 20-10-2013 03:43 PM

Americans actually do love Halloween, Xmas etc a lot more than we do, they get right into it, the amount of work I get from now until just after xmas is unreal and it's mostly for Americans.

..I've always wanted to spend Christmas in America because to me it would be just like the movies...Home Alone etc and amazing trees and lights...and just a great feel good atmosphere..I don't know if it's really like that...

Smithy 20-10-2013 03:48 PM

Marc barely posts the flop :suspect:

..no, I wasn't that keen on it because even though it's the AHS story atm, I don't think it's that friendly a name for a chat thread but it was up to Tom as it was his thread so I and others left him to make the decision..which I see he has and I it's a good name and also Halloween related...

I think it's because we have 4 major holidays all back to back... halloween, thanksgiving, christmas and new years, it's like 3 months of excitement, and it all builds up to a major release on New Years. I love it. The timing of the holidays really helps to build excitement and get people in the spirit.

It's like a cycle. you start with celebrating evil and all things dark and letting your mind and imagination go crazy and explore your darkest fantasies on Halloween, then you have Thanksgiving which is celebrating the harvest and bounty and you are still celebrating greed which is bad, but also celebrating family and coming together and giving thanks which is good, and then you have Christmas which is all about celebrating good, generosity and sharing. and then you have New Years which absolves everyone of their year, and you can start over all fresh and new.

The American holiday season is like a circle.

..American celebrations always look amazing and so special in movies...especially Christmas and New Year in Times Square...

October, November, and December always felt magical to me growing up in America. I loved all of the holidays. My family and community always made all of the holidays really special and elaborate. and then as a bonus., my birthday is at the end of January, so even after the holiday season was over i still had something extra to look forward too.

I think it's really nice when you have something that everyone can participate in and get excited about. I love Holidays, and i'm generally a very cynical person.

..Halloween trick or treat is quite a new thing for us, I'd never even heard of it as a child...obviously Christmas and New Year to a lesser extent or huge here as well..but I don't think we do much for Harvest time/Thanksgiving in general...we do at the school I work, it's a big thing there and the children all bring foods/produce etc and it goes to the elderly people in the village....

Ammi 20-10-2013 04:03 PM

..oh I never noticed you were a bit of an old cynic, Alex...that one's new to me.....

Kizzy 20-10-2013 04:04 PM

Harvest is in no way about greed, Aw why this no coven waaah!
