USA: Deputies shoot dead 13-year-old boy spotted carrying 'toy rifle'

These Toys should be Banned in America
this is tragic.

"Deputies shoot dead 13-year-old boy
spotted carrying 'toy rifle' given

in Sonoma County carrying what
they believed was a rifle
The cops say ordered him to drop
his weapon and opened fire when he didn't comply
Lopez was hit multiple times and
died on the spot
His heartbroken family say he
was carrying just a toy while
police have described it as a
replica of an AK-47 style rifle"

This is an all too common story lately, too many officers in the USA think they're Clint Eastwood which leads to them shooting first and asking questions later. I hope these two officers get done for Murder since there was no reason for this whatsoever.

That would be the logical outcome, let's see what actually happens.

They'll probably get away with a slap on the wrist. The cops in Sonoma County seem to be really trigger happy!

Tom4784 23-10-2013 06:01 PM

They probably won't, the system will protect them. It always does when officers get trigger happy in America.

It's strange how parents would allow their son to go out on the streets with a pretend gun that looks like that. It looks very real to me.

I guess it was fear that motivated the police to shoot first.

Nedusa 24-10-2013 05:04 PM

Is this a tragic overreaction by mindless murdering Police, or is it suicide by Cop or is it the untimely demise of someone so stupid as to walk around in America with a replica AK47 ??

Either way very Sad....!!!!

Why is a 13 y/o playing with toy guns? 6 y/o's play with toy guns, little kids, not 13 year olds. 13 y/o's should be listening to loud music and masturbating. Why was this 13 y/o walking around with such a realistic gun to begin with?

It looks very realistic to me, if i was a cop, i would think it was real too. If he pointed that thing at me, i would have shot him too.

how would that be the logical outcome? if the kid was threatening them with it, they have no way of knowing it's a fake, and they had every reason to assume it was real.

Why didn't he drop it like they asked

Ramsay 24-10-2013 05:52 PM

Could they not of shot him in the leg or something? or even better, why didn't he just drop it like jordan said

There is already a law in America that toy guns have to have an orange plastic tip. It's pretty easy to remove the orange plastic tip from them though.

No as if it was a Real one (which is what they thought)
he could have killed a cop
and that is rare

Armed police probably from most police forces do not train to shoot people in the arm or leg, if they discharge a firearm then they do it stop the target not enrage it even more.

So as unpalatable as it seems if they shoot they shoot to kill...!!!!

Yeah I don't get why if you had policeman pointing guns at you telling you to drop it you wouldn't just drop it..

Nedusa 24-10-2013 06:56 PM

For what it's worth I recently saw a video clip from the states taken from a CCTV camera inside a drugstore. It showed two men in motorcycle helmets with guns holding up the store and robbing it.

Within 90 seconds the whole side of the shop which was plate glass shattered in a hail of bullets as both armed robbers were shot dead. No fuss no warnings no nothing just a hail of bullets and two dead robbers.

The video clip is shocking as it shows the bullets ripping through the two assailants and blood flying in all directions .

Turns out this was one policeman who happened to drive last and see this robbery in progress.

Shoot first and ask questions later seems to be the way...!!!

Nedusa 24-10-2013 07:28 PM

Yes both store clerks were shocked and then even more shocked but otherwise unhurt and probably lucky to be alive..

If they can't tell a plastic toy from a real AK47 then they shouldn't be officers as it shows they lack basic observational skills and have terrible judgement. This kid shouldn't be blamed for these officers' shortcomings. They handled the situation completely wrong and murdered a child in the process.

No allowances should be made for them and this kid shouldn't be made a scapegoat for their crime. Excusing behavior like this just encourages more officers to grow trigger happy. Police Officers wield a lot of power and they need to face consequences when they misuse it, especially in a country like America where most officers are armed at all times.

sorry i disagree. You sound like they should be psychic and know the gun is plastic.

Cops are HUMAN BEINGS going to work every day just like the rest of us. They aren't GODS. They don't have special powers, they aren't psychic. And they have just as much a right to protect themselves as any other human being when they feel threatened.

They don't make very much money, and they have families that care about them too.

Clearly someone called the cops because they were scared, a member of the public saw this kid waving it around and felt threatened so they called the cops, they told the cops someone guy is waving around a high-powered automatic weapon, please help us. That's all the cops knew when they got to the scene.

Marc 24-10-2013 08:26 PM

They're idiots and they'll both have it on their conscious now
