Would you work if you didn't have to?

Say you somehow became financially secure enough to just not work anymore, would you hand in your notice/stop working?

Or would you continue working for the sake of something to do, social side of it, just getting you out of the house etc?

Smithy 02-11-2013 11:42 AM

Probably just part time

BBfanUSA 02-11-2013 11:42 AM

I would continue working, except I would be the owner and manager of my own sports pub or pizza place.

Kate! 02-11-2013 11:42 AM

I'd continue to work. It drives me crackers otherwise. I'd probably get involved in charity fundraising of some description, have always wanted to do that. I'm good at organising :)

Benjamin 02-11-2013 11:46 AM

I would work, but it would be travelling, writing, volunteering projects, saving baby turtles, helping build villages. I'm half way there to doing that, just need more money, lol.

Drew. 02-11-2013 11:48 AM

Depends how much money.. If it was a lottery win or something on that level then id probably put my money into a sports team and that would be my work.

Hubby and I took the decision for me to pack in my very good job when son was due, daughter came along nearly 3 years later.
Once they were both at school and I had loads of free time I started getting bored. I put an ad in the local newsagents to do cleaning and ironing so that I could dictate my hours and work around the school holidays.
Unbelievable just how much work I had to turn down. I would say a very high percentage of people where I live are teachers, police, footballers etc so plenty of dosh to spare for a cleaner.
Ended up babysitting for most of them as well, if their kids were ill and could not go to school or nursery.
Packed it all in after 7/8 years due to health issues.
Now a lady of leisure, great not to have to get up and out to work in the winter etc but it does get very boring at times.

No, I have always believed that a man's natural state is idleness

Shaun 02-11-2013 12:25 PM

Just the stuff I don't really consider work (writing etc.)... I'd probably do charity work and invest in friends' ventures too. (this is in a lottery win scenario )

If I was doing my dream job and working with people I enjoyed but if I had this choice right now HECK TO THE NINE!

GiRTh 02-11-2013 01:11 PM

Misread the Op. No. I would give up work and never work again.

Jesus. 02-11-2013 01:32 PM

Not a chance in hell.

Kizzy 02-11-2013 01:55 PM

I would start a business, building a retirement village I think.

Lee. 02-11-2013 02:15 PM

Definitely not! No chance!!

Marsh. 02-11-2013 02:15 PM

I'd probably set up my own business and I'd like to think get involved in charities/volunteering.

Either way, I wouldn't be able to just do nothing. Except for the times I am travelling the world of course.

King Gizzard 02-11-2013 02:15 PM

Probably voluntary. Would feel better

mizzy25 02-11-2013 02:16 PM

Id work Id be bored still otherwise.

armand.kay 02-11-2013 03:33 PM

No I would go travelling.

Ninastar 02-11-2013 03:37 PM

part time i'd work... maybe 2/3 days a week, with weekends off of course

Niamh. 02-11-2013 04:44 PM

No way, I much prefer home life to work

Samm 02-11-2013 05:39 PM

its like those lotto winners. always annoys me when people win the lotto n return to work. why buy a ticket they have zero imagination and dont deserve the money

if people are well off n bored they can always run their own business or do charity work.
theres always plenty of things to do

GypsyGoth 02-11-2013 07:58 PM

If I became financially secure for the rest of my life I would do other things with my time like writing and travelling.
