Worst ever flights

What are your terrible flying experiences? Bumpy rides? Horrible passengers? Terrible delays at the airport?

I was due to fly from Glasgow Airport the day after the terrorist attack in 2007 and my mum was convinced we weren't going to be able to fly, it was all very stressful and then when we got to the airport it smelled like a barbecue (that's such a grim thing to say ) but thankfully we weren't delayed for too long, only a couple of hours as far as I can remember.

We were on a flight to Turkey, family holiday, and this group of Weegie arseholes wouldn't shut up the entire flight over, it was a late night flight and obviously Turkey is a couple of hours ahead so by the time we arrived it was early morning and we all felt sick because of the lack of sleep so my mum marches up to the main culprit when we got to the airport in Turkey and told him he was very selfish and he accused my mum of being "noisy with your eye mask" :conf: and they nearly got into a fight :joker: my dad ended up having to drag my mum away, she was like a dragon, terrifying!

I was delayed at an airport in Kos for 8 hours once, and it was the smallest airport i've ever been in, it was just like a cattle market, horrible hot and sweaty :bored:

..all of them...

..but my OH was coming back from Dublin a few weeks ago and the plane spun on the runway when it was landing, almost facing the other way, when it stopped...scary...

..but seriously..turbulence/bumps of any kind/looking out of the window/taking off/landing...and your captain telling you that there might not be enough fuel to get to your destination...I just don't like flying now at all...I used to though...

August 2001.

Took off from Cardiff airport and 15 minutes into the flight I could smell smoke. I was sat by the wing. I told my step mother and she just laughed at me then about 5 minutes later I saw her look out the window and her face drop.

The engine was on fire.

The plane had to circle to dump all the fuel then when we landed it was full of police, ambulances and fire trucks.

We was then made to wait 10 hours whilst they flew in a new part from Manchester for the SAME PLANE!

The next flight I went on to Turkey we flew into a thunder storm so had to do a steep climb to get above it.

Im terrified of flying now and am going to Chicago in July so 8 hours of pure terror, jumping at every single noise or knocking myself out with vodka and a few valium.

One of my friends even refuses to fly with me lol.

Never really had any exceptionally bad ones, but a lot of little annoyances like lost luggage (on the flight home though so didnt spend all holiday without my suitcase), couple of hour delays, person in front having their seat back all flight, ridiculously long queues, kids kicking the back of my seat etc

In general airports and flying tend to be terrible experiences tbh

the 2nd time i ever flew we were going to corfu in oct, we hit a very bad thunderstorm with no warning, I had my mate saying to me that we were going to die, drinks were flying all over the place and the girl sitting @ the end was frozen to the spot. That was on the way there. On the way back it started lightning in the airport big flashes across the sky, an elderly couple who were trying to calm us down said it was just the airport lights, it wasnt, the plane still took off bumpy as hell and this time i was frozen to the spot the whole journey home. Next time we flew my mate worked in a chemist and had got some valium, I said I wouldnt need it, then I saw the plane and my whole body started to shake, thankfully she gave me a valium and ever since when ive flew which hasnt been for a long time now, I got valium off the dr,

..those sound really scary, Mizzy...my mother in law always took medication before she flew as well..she got really nervous even up to a month or so before the flight...then she started going on ships instead and got sea sick....oh dear...

never had any bad flights 8touch wood8 dont like turbulence though. my aunty was flying to florida day of 9/11 and they had to make an emergency landng in canada and spent 12 hours on the plane. And another uncle had a bad expeience flying once and his wife refuses to fly anymore

I love flying and have never had any horrific experiences.. I've experienced fairly bad turbulence to the point of people screaming and praying on the plane but it doesn't really bother me..

The only flight I've found very eerie was the one I took to Greece the day after 9/11. The delays were terrible as security was at its highest and the atmosphere both in the airport and on the plane was pretty horrible :(

Lee. 04-11-2013 02:55 PM

Oh.. And any flight with my sister is fairly awful! She's absolutely terrified and the slightest movement in the plane, she grabs me.. Even if I'm asleep. She was sobbing the last time I flew with her :bored:

Flying back from cyprs there was a massive thunderstorm over Germany I though I was going to die

Livia 04-11-2013 09:25 PM

Delayed at Denver airport for twenty six long, loooooong hours, eight of them sitting on a plane on the runway. It got so hot they opened the doors and let the blizzard in. Nightmare.

Landing in Las Vegas in a thunderstorm and the plane being struck by lightning. That was interesting.

I quite like turbulence. It alleviates the boredom, watching nervous flyers freak out.
