I wish a contestant would refuse the sing off due to futility

The sing off often has no baring on who is sent home. The judges know who they want to eliminate or save. Often at Cowell's behest. Wish someone would be churlish and petty and say "what's the point. I know you won't save me. You've made up your mind already, so why waste my time".

That would be amazing

Closest you are getting to it

They would probably threaten to sue them or something daft for breaking their contract and not abiding by the rules of X Factor.

It would be a good thing to see happen though.
I am trying to imagine the judges faces if it ever did.
Having said that, if a judge can abstain from voting an act out then an act should be able to abstain from taking part in a sing off, especially if they know as the opening post said, that they are going to be put out anyway, no matter what their performance may be.

It would be hilarious seeing Dermot trying to fill 10 mins.

I it were me, I'd call their bluff on the suing bit and dare them to. Bad PR for them.

An example where it was futile was last year sing off no1. Carolynne Pool was 100% better than Rylan, but he brought entertainment and controversy so was kept in.

Katie Waisell said sod it and sat down in the middle of her perfomance..I think thats the closest we have been on ours. And the judges STILL ****ing saved her :joker:

Actually sitting down and sod it is what saved her imo. She brought unpredictability and drama plus "villain " status.

Love this guy. Why did I never hear about this? I'd love this to happen on our version.

He also won that showdown, but Simon and his mentor were very dissappointed with his attitude.

There's a bunch of conspiracy theories on why he was down there too.

Sophiee 12-11-2013 10:25 AM

it would be completely pointless for an act to do this if they want to be successful :conf: there's always a chance they could be saved.

I love a good conspiracy theory, do tell.

I like the fact that he refused but still went thru. Simon is very good isnt he? He knows whats gonna get his show added publicity.

None of the later stage acts will break contract for fear of being kicked off the x factor tour. It could be done in one of the early week's, but then, it wouldn't be very dramatic so early...

..wow, what a great little guy...he's just 'celebrity/XFactor'..and the second vid is quite emotional...that's Simon at his best as well, it's easy to forget the reasons he 'made' XFactor...

Apparently he was put bottom 2, because he was wearing Dre Beats headphones during his performance and the show is sponsored by Sony. Producers told him before he went out to perform that was his punishment, which is why he came out saying he doesn't want to perform for "you guys". Not sure how true it is, but hilarious stuff either way :joker:

That sounds like it could be true. :joker:

It is true. His YT vid wasn't uploaded with the other acts and when it was the headphones were blurred out.
