ITV has bagged the rights to Israeli talent show Rising Star, which is expected to be a new rival for The X Factor and The Voice UK.

A huge hit in Israel, the show allows viewers and judges to vote in real time via an app and the studio audience only get to see the act if 70% of the viewers support the performers.

Produced by Keshet, the company behind the drama Prisoners of War (the original Homeland), the format has been sold around the world.

The show is expected to launch in the UK in January 2015, replacing Dancing on Ice in the New Year Sunday night slots.

How is it a rival for The X Factor if it's on the same channel?

This sounds amazing! :amazed:

Here's a clip:

From what I understand it appears it's basically like the Blind Auditions, except the show must be live, the act is separated from the studio audience and judging panel by a massive curved screen, viewers vote on an app in real time on whether they like the performance or not and as people vote their Facebook profile pictures appear on the screen to show they've voted. If the number of votes goes over 75%, the screen lifts up and they progress to the next round...don't know how the rest of the show works though.

Oh, and it seems from watching that video that if a judge presses a button and likes them, it gives a +7% to the total.

Interesting concept, but do we really need more of these shows? Nothing beats X Factor.

I actually think this is great.
Moving with the times and may do better than the dated X Factor.

Will all of our good singers go onto a show like this though? A shame though as I like the sound of the different elements to it.

From what I hear, its basically the same as the Voice, also nothing will beat the X-Factor.

ITV need something cuz X Factor is frankly garbage. Lets hope Simon Cowell doesnt get his grubby hands on it and maybe it will be an actual talent contest.

Tom4784 15-11-2013 06:27 PM

It sounds ****.

BBfanUSA 15-11-2013 07:40 PM

yeah, I don't think it will work.

But then again I thought the Voice wouldn't work in the US.

What we really need is a show where the contestants are the judges. Oh and they're hooked up to special equipment to show the viewers at home if the contestant giving the critique is lying about a person or not.

Because if it somehow gets mega ratings it will overshadow The X Factor and become ITV's new golden goose

Headie 15-11-2013 08:38 PM

This looks really promising actually.

But knowing close-minded Britain, the rappers, urban acts etc won't get through.

Mystic Mock 15-11-2013 09:04 PM

Hayden we all know that Pop singers are the only singers allowed to win on UK singing shows because they sing dull mainstream Music.
