UKash Police Virus -- WARNING [Please Read]

A lovely little virus is spreading around that claims that the police have locked your computer because apparently you have been looking at unsuitable sites, piracy etc until you pay a sum of like 100 Ukash vouchers to unlock your computer. The virus is done in a clever way that leads you to think that you have been charged and all the police stuff. UKash themselves say that it is a scam and should you pay the sum of money proposed by these ugly scammers :yuk: they will go through measures to help you recover your stolen money. According to other people who obtained the virus and paid the sum of money, it does not unlock the computer.

This and other similar scams are common on normal sites like gumtree so no one is safe.

Just a friendly hint to anyone who experiences it -- I have just read about it today.

Has even one experienced this virus or any similar ones?

My dad had it but thankfully it was an easy one to remove, just had to put a virus program onto a USB and boot the laptop from there and it got rid of it

fingers 17-11-2013 03:44 PM

Yeah, I had it, but fortunately I also had a laptop so could Google for the way to get rid of it, can't remember now how to do it but it wasn't difficult. It IS an absolute bastard though, if you do get infected, your Comp is just piece of non operative electronic junk until you clean it out!

I remember now, I used Option 3 from this link, the Kaspersky Rescue disc, It is not a bad idea to burn this disc while you are not infected, Just In Case!

It just puts up a different screen for different countries, Cuda. So sometimes it's the Metropolitan Police or the FBI and they'll change it for Russia and Australia and Canada etc.

There is a free version of AVG you can get that will help protect your computer. Also there are a few others that are free as well.

A friend of mine rang me at work in tears because of one of the police viruses saying that her PC had been locked because she had engaged in some illegal activity.

When I stopped laughing and ensured her it wasnt real and Interpol were not looking for her she was able to fix it relatively easy.

fingers 17-11-2013 07:42 PM

Avast also have a free version of their anti-virus.

smeagol 17-11-2013 10:18 PM

awful virus that it ruined my pc once.
best bet is to install malwarebytes on your pc then if you get anything dodgy just start in safe mode and run it and it should remove it.

i thought they caught some of the scum who do it recently

Nemo123 17-11-2013 10:28 PM

You're better off using Linux as your OS. I've had it on my second computer, and have had absolutely no problems with it.

BigSister 17-11-2013 10:35 PM

I got that but managed to get rid of it but its so annoying when you do get it you think you have been looking at illegal things

Kizzy 17-11-2013 10:45 PM

I knacked my sons laptop, doing system restore it told me to disable the antivirus, it came with the laptop and by doing it someone said I corrupted windows :/

If you have another computer
learn how to and then download Linux, and then put that on your son's computer. It's quite complicated. You need to know how to burn "images"

smeagol 17-11-2013 11:00 PM

norton sucks. wont ever use that again, easily gets through that depending on the virus.

Nemo123 17-11-2013 11:05 PM

I have 2 laptops, both the same, Inspirons 1501. One has a faster processor, this one. It runs both Windows and Linux. It gives me trouble in either. The other is purely Linux, and it works beautifully. I have a golden rule, I never dl anything to the Linux computer.

I got it a few weeks back and it was a pain in the arse to get rid of.

And those saying their antivirus will pick it up, it wont it's a complete arsehole of a virus and as soon as it's in there you lose control of your entire computer.
