Adele, Katy, Gaga, P!nk, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars to perform Beatles special

Quote:

I note with interest that the Hollywood Reporter has now filed on the special marking 50 years since The Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, called The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles.

As previously reported here, this will take place the day after the Grammys.

But what the US press does not know -and we do- is who will appear at the concert.

Brian Walsh revealed all at the recent Foxtel Upfronts:

“An all-star line-up headed up by Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and George’s wife Olivia Harrison, along with some of the biggest names in music such as Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Adele, Bruno Mars, P!nk and Katy Perry will gather to celebrate and perform the songs of The Beatles,” he said.

“What a show that will be. And it’s only on Foxtel next year.”

This screens in early February.

The bright young faces of contemporary chart music big up The Beatles. Just the thing to turn me back into the schizotypal, loathsome creature known as Stubeer.

I never thought I'd say this but can we just listen to Yoko talk about their legacy for 90 minutes instead?

Personally I think it's a good thing. It'll bring their music to a whole new audience - people who might have rubbished The Beatles because it's "music for old people" will tune in to see their favourite popstars sing Beatles classics and realise that they were wrong.

I'm tempted to agree. I'm sure it's full of good intentions and I'm definitely hamming up the sardonic misery balls thing on purpose.

But I'm sure some will still see The Beatles as dinosaurs who only have any validity now because their favorite popstars gave them a new lick of paint. Although admittedly this could be me letting TiBB cloud reality.

I think probably both - some people talking about "relevance" (whatever that's even supposed to mean) and some people learning about music they'd never appreciated before. All the same, it'll be great for The Beatles. I watched Paul and Katy Perry interacting on the Graham Norton Show, she's obviously a huge fan of The Beatles

Ugh why is gaga covering them, I wish she'd cover someone with actual talent like one direction

You could be right, but she's really minimalist in her promotional campaigns, she seems to just premiere a song by performing it live once and then letting radio do the rest, she'll probably just feature here and then disappear for another few months

Iceman 18-11-2013 07:38 PM

Yeah I'm more hoping that than anything else haha

Nope
