UK City of culture

Hull

Hull has been named the next UK city of culture from 2017, beating of competition from Dundee, Leicester and Swansea Bay.

The government choose a new destination every four years, with the aim of helping tourism and the economy.

Go on ye Hull:dance:

Didn't hull win worst place to live in the U.K like 3 or 4 years ago? What have the cod heads done to turn that around so quick?

The simple fact that William Wilberforce came from Hull should be enough to grant Hull City of Culture status. A man we don't make enough fuss about, in my opinion.

Good for them.

I totally agree.
There should be a film made about this man.
Then again slavery is something we like to sweep under the carpet.

Very well said, we do make a fuss of him here, our most famous son, and the major leading figure in the abolition of the slave trade, we're very proud of him.

Bloody ridiculous to be honest, out of all of the candidates Hull would have been my last choice. Just shows that this 'award' is nothing more than a cash injection for struggling cities.

Swansea
Birthplace of Dylan Thomas
Gower designated the first area of natural beauty in Britain
Home of the first ever Welsh club to get into the Premier League

I could go on...

And so you should be proud... the man was a true hero.

Didn't Amy Johnson come from Hull too?
