What do you/did you call your grandparents?

Zee's thread made me think of this...

What do you/did you call your grandparents?

My mums parents were Gran and Papa

My Dads were Maw and Deh (slang for mum and dad I think? even though they were our grandparents)

Second one sounds a bit weird but that's what everyone in our family called them

Granny and Banff Granny :joker: the reason being that Granny lived in the city and Banff Granny surprisingly enough lived away up in Banff on the north coast. Granda was Banff Granny's husband but he died when I was about 4 I think so never really referred to him as anything, and my dad's dad died long before I was born, he died when my dad was my age (22).

:joker::joker:

That sounds similar to my nephews, they called my mum Gran because she lived round the corner, their other gran lived in Glasgow so she was motorway Gran

I miss my Granny, we used to go see her every Saturday before the football, she had this collection of ceramic and glass animals that she kept on her sideboards and she didn't trust banks so she kept all her money hidden around her flat in the most ingenious hiding places. I've never seen anything like it in my life since, she had hollowed out shelves, kept money between pages of books, in tins in her pantry that she'd resealed, I remember she once produced a wad of £20s from her VCR :laugh2: she was so paranoid! She had a hard life though, I miss her a lot, she died two days after my 13th birthday and my mum told me while she was driving us over to our brother's flat where she was decorating (Granny was her mother in law) and I was in floods of tears and she really didn't care. Awful...

Didn't like the other one so much, she called me fat when I was 9 (which I was) and it really hurt my feelings.

Black Dagger 09-12-2013 03:06 PM

Grandma and Grandad

But then I call my Dad's mum, Nana.

Jessica. 09-12-2013 03:08 PM

I call my dad's mother "Nana" and called her husband Granda, but he died a few years ago. I never met my mother's parents, she was the youngest of nine so they died before she was 20.

A funny thing is that when my first niece and nephew were born they always called my mother Nana, but when my brother had a child, as she was learning to talk my mother had just had a hip replacement, so since she was a hyper child everyone would say to her "Be careful of your Nana's hip!", so somehow the child ended up knowing her as "Nana hip", the name completely stuck and her little sister picked up on calling her that too. :joker: The child is 8 now and still says "Hello Nana hip!" or "Can I go to visit Nana hip?".

MTVN 09-12-2013 04:47 PM

My mum's mum I call Granny, and my dad's I call Grandma

Not sure why but all the grandchildren of each call them that as well (as in my cousins not like my brother)

mizzy25 09-12-2013 05:13 PM

my mams parents were gran (lived to aged 96!) and granddad, dads parents were gran and granddad craigie (their surname)
does anyone who is a granma now get called mon mar? just a woman I know gets called that and says loads of kids say it now. I thought a bit odd myself like.

AnnieK 09-12-2013 05:16 PM

Mine were (are) Grandma and Grandad....

My son calls my mum Grandma and his Dads mum Nana which makes it easier for us to tell him who he is going to see etc. he calls both the dads Grandad
