Tornadoes

I don't know about you but for me I find them strangely frightening yet beautiful to look at. I've never seen one in the flesh before though apparently I missed out on seeing one in Bulgaria (which saddens me for some reason).

I think if I ever did see one I would be terrified but find it compelling at the same time. That's not to say I wouldn't try and get the ******* away from it but I dunno it's one of natures beautiful tragedies I think.

What do you think? Has anyone seen one? What do you think you would do if you did?

fingers 15-12-2013 07:54 PM

I really don't want to ever see one in real life, just seeing the after effects on TV is more than enough, thank you very much!

Kyle 15-12-2013 08:07 PM

Hey listen I totally admire it, in many ways I can see it being one hell of an adrenaline fix. Not to mention they are damn good to look at.

BBfanUSA 15-12-2013 08:12 PM

So Dangerous but yet so amazing.

I love it when they test the sirens every monday of every week unless it's winter. *Sarcasm*

Kyle 15-12-2013 08:15 PM

Ah I keep forgetting we have people on here from across the pond.

You ever seen one in the flesh before BBfanUSA? Do you get them often where your at?

BBfanUSA 15-12-2013 08:20 PM

I haven't seen one in the flesh, but they're common in Iowa where I live. Usually during the spring/summer they usually inform us if there's a tornado watch(Meaning there's a chance for one) or warning (Meaning there's one on the ground or near the ground).

I'd say the last tornado that went by me was about 1-3 years ago. It was late at night (about 1 AM) and I was in a pissy mood because I was a teenager that wanted to go to sleep but I had to wait the storm out in the basement (and the siren that was blaring, alerting the town there was a tornado warning, nothing hit the town though,)

At my school they always had a tornado drill once a month or so during the school year.

smeagol 15-12-2013 08:21 PM

i would love to be a storm chaser. its only nature that makes you realize how pathetic and sad we are as a human race. we think we are in control but nature has other plans
its things like tornadoes which are fascinating. and make you realize how insignificant we are.
mother nature she sure is one dangerous but interesting sob lol

So you get a fair amount of warning before they form up?

Absolutely.

Tornadoes and cyclones have always fascinated me because how striking and unique they look yet not being too dangerous to the point of your pretty much doomed as soon as you see one. Lighting is another beautiful feature of nature I think with only a tiny hint of danger.

Can't say I'd find a tsunami or a volcanic eruption too enthralling though.

Never seen one but would love to.

Tbh I find all natural disasters amazing and beautiful. Volcanoes are my fave I think

I'd love to go see Pompeii. I bet it would be fascinating.

smeagol 15-12-2013 08:48 PM

Thunder and lightning is great. i like to be out in it. i was walking through town the other week it was torrential rain and the craziest lightning and thunder i've seen in a long time.
and everybody was left and right under shelter . and i was the only one just strolling down the middle lol with people looking at me like i'm mental lol. but i love it. i nver know why people run it wont kill you unless your unlucky

volcanoes would worry me you wont survive them .but anything else i'd like to see .you only know your alive when the weather shows its different face

I'm terrified of tornadoes :(. I used to have recurring nightmares about them, from the age of about 8 right up until around 20 (not all the time, but probably one every month or so) and seeing footage of them on TV or even in movies sends shivers up my spine. Not sure what it is about them, specifically...

Moviefan 15-12-2013 09:31 PM

Same here, I never seen one, I love to see one, even chase one, I gutted that Missed the one the Midlands number of years 2005/6? I think it was.

I did not go out that, I was meant to go near to place the that Twister in birmingham, it was lashing down with Rain, I was dog sitting that week.

I can imagine them being terrifying to many, many people. That's what fascinates me about them. If I ever saw one close up I'd no doubt cack my pants but yet be in awe at their beauty. Up until it whisks me away that is

:

Oh Yeah, The local tv stations usually interrupt programming to say there's a tornado warning for *Said Area* and the meterologists usually stay on the air to keep a track of it live to see where it could possibly be going.

Within each state, there's a bunch of counties. So they usually say there's a tornado warning for SE Sully County.

It used to be issued for the whole county but to avoid confusion and sometimes unnecessary panic, they just use areas within a county now.

There was a funny story one time. I live by a Division I Sport College called Iowa State, and their mascot is a cyclone. One time a American Football game got interrupted because of a Tornado Warning.
