Would you ...

Buy GTA (and other games like that) for your kid if s/he was quite a bit under 18, e.g. 14?

Drew. 21-12-2013 05:42 PM

I don't think most parents even realize half the stuff that goes on in games that are rated 18 so i think a lot of parents would.

Me. I Am Salman 21-12-2013 05:42 PM

I'd buy it for them if they were eight.

No way!!

It depends on the maturity of the child and if they deserve a game.

It's not quite as simple as that though, for instance COD is an 18 but my kids play it and they are under 18 and every one I know that has boys play it and they are all under 18, (but all in High School), because if they don't have it they would be the only ones in the school without it, would you be able to say no?

f you have a 14 year old and they are mature then I can't see the problem, where the problem lies is when you have 7 year olds playing these games.

Gstar 21-12-2013 06:10 PM

Yeah, definitely

You people are so boring

My older brothers bought me True Crime for my eighth birthday and you have to fight topless strippers in that game, but I turned out fine

Also in that game you have to be really careful with how you shoot criminals (you need to aim and shoot them in the leg and not their upper body or they die and you come closer to a bad cop). If I was able to do that (and I completed that game effortlessly) then I was. Def mature enough

Plenty of adults out there are buying these things for their kids and they get on just fine. A lot of factors are involved as well, such as maturity levels, and not all teens can't distinguish between the sentiments of a game and reality.

That's not to say that a virtual game in which you can 'act out' crime and the likes won't have more of an impact on a 9-year-old than watching a zombie bleed ketchup as part of some sub-human, fantasy horror but many teens are more than mature enough to handle this.

Stop being so patronising.

My parents were buying my brother the GTA games when he was 14  it's just a game. Some people who have problems with telling the difference between a game and real life ought to be better supervised by their parents but that's up to the parent to make that judgment call, in my opinion. If your child's mature enough then there's no issue - ratings for games are a bit ridiculous anyway, they're not the same as films.

Yes, the Game is not gonna turn the kid into a psycho (unlike some would have you believe) and it's not like it's hurting anyone else.

Adults just think that kids are little angels to the point that butter wouldn't melt in their mouth, but that is not true they like the violent games just like the rest of us.:joker:

I've played them ever since I was 6 and I don't think it's damaged me that badly.

Kizzy 22-12-2013 02:27 AM

I wouldn't no not 14, I'm one of the nutters that feel it can lead to desensitisation though

Ramsay 22-12-2013 01:08 PM

Seeing as i had it when i was 14 and loved it , yeah for sure

I'd generally have no problem from 12/13 but buying it for an impressionable child may well do more harm than good. Don't see the issue with fantasy horror films but 'realistic' games are much more likely to affect the younger ones.

But people are deluding themselves if they really think teens under 18 will turn into a crazy serial killer because of a video game.

Jordan. 22-12-2013 01:44 PM

Yes I had them bought for me

Brother Leon 22-12-2013 02:01 PM

Yeah. I been playing GTA since I was 10. If I can handle it then so can they. 14 is more than old enough. They hear and see worse in school and online/tele more than likely anyway.

i agree with this in terms with violence but what i do think is important age wise, is how much they are exposed to in a sexual manner... i think it's different with how much sex there is in a game compared with how much violence there is, you know?
