which has 20-year history of providing
unusual but relevant figures as an alternative
to the Queen's Christmas message shown
by other UK broadcasters. It will be Snowden's
first television appearance since arriving in Moscow.
The address, to be broadcast at 4.15pm
on Christmas Day, was filmed in Russia – where
Snowden is living after being granted
temporary asylum – by Laura Poitras,
a film-maker who has closely collaborated
with him on the NSA stories.
In excerpts from the address released
by Channel 4, Snowden says
George Orwell "warned us of the
danger of this kind of information"
in his dystopian novel, 1984.
Snowden says: "The types of collection
in the book – microphones and
video cameras, TVs that watch us – are
nothing compared to what we have
available today. We have sensors
in our pockets that track us
everywhere we go. Think about
what this means for the privacy
of the average person.]

I look forward to hearing this , I think all people should be interested in listening to what is being done in their name, I also think we should not get too carried away with the establishment's argument that he is releasing sensitive details which may harm our troops or security operatives.

He is not , he is trying to inform the General public of some of the covert actions and possible unlawful decisions that are taken "in our name" to "keep us safe" to "protect our freedoms". Well where is the accountability , who spy's on the spys ?

I think these disclosures are necessary to keep Govt's in check and accountable to the public that elected them there in the first place...

So yeah, maybe there have been some bad calls 'in the name of justice!!!!!!!1111' but i don't think people realise what is actually done every single day. So many calls are made. Some bad, but mainly very good.

What do you think was done during the Olympics last year? Nothing? Because the public didn't see anything happen? No, there was tons and tons of precautions made. Do you think there were threats? Of course there were. Just because it's not in the news and not everyone knows what is going on, doesn't mean it's not happening.

Ch4 have lost a lot of respect with me, and if they think by broadcasting this message they can reclaim it, then they need to do better. I mean it was hardly threatening to the establishment, now was it?

No ... You are sadly so misguided the guy is a hero for standing up for people , you seem to have a very strange warped view of things... Bad things happen to innocent people because power has corrupted certain individuals who think they can play God and in the process trample all over anybody they choose...!!!

I think you're very misguided Nedusa, you seem to think it's more important to make sure we don't infringe on terrorists rights. And at the same time you criticizing people who put their lives on the live protecting you.

The spies who are observing populations in the west are doing it to protect the countries here from attacks. What's the alternative? Stop spying and let the terrorists do what they want? It sometimes seems to me that if you had you're way, we'd be wearing yashmaks.

Well I think we can all agree that Snowden is a total asshole and the fact that he is hiding out in Russia speaks volumes for the type of countries that were helped by his treachery.
