Arista...the litte girl needed 80 stitches...not 8.

Poor kid.
Always best to keep young kids away from other people's dogs. |
If you're leaving a four year old child with a dog - especially a smart, easily bored working dog - then you're an idiot and the dog should be taken off you. When are people going to learn that all dogs are dangerous around kids? Kids are loud, fast and unpredictable... all the things liable to make a dog snap.
|
Foolish of them to leave a toddler with a dog, I don't believe the dog should have to pay for the owner's incompetence though. I agree with Liv, take the dog away from them and put it in the care of someone who can care for it properly.

Huskies are beautiful dogs but a real handful. They have not said how it happened but I guess the child has startled the dog...

Yes a young child can look like a attacker to a Huskie. Now that dog must never be near children that is fair. |

oh and what a strange name for a dog. "zues"
|
Poor girl :(
|
It's not that strange a name, it's a Greek God and on the list of popular dog names
|
I have read the little girl was leaning forward into the dog, maybe it felt threatened by that, especially if she was making a noise, poor kid glad she's ok and no need for the dog to be put down as Livia said give it to people who know how to handle it.

Pack animals have a pecking order, the dog must have thought he was above her and was asserting his dominance I would say.
I'm so glad the child is ok, shocking thing to happen, it could have been avoided yes but if previously friendly it's easy to see how the owner would trust his dog to protect the 'pup' not hurt it. |
People do need to learn about kids and dogs, people are far too complacent about "man's best friend". They humanize them and fail to realise that they are still basically instinct-driven creatures. So its not entirely the dogs fault and I sympathise with the owner.
HOWEVER ... If this was one of my daughters, the owner putting the dog down wouldn't be an issue, because I would have killed it myself. |
I didnt think the owner had a choice after the dog attacks someone?
So many stories of stupid people leaving their kids alone with dogs though |

If the incident had happened in a public place the dog could have been put down - but the law does not apply on private land. The government has pledged to removed the loophole next year Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz2ogdbXjuR |

people seem to forget that no matter that you had a dog for five years(or however long), it is still an animal and can act unpredictable at times.
|
Complacency on both sides - don't let a dog come into contact with an unpredictable child and don't let a child come into contact with an unpredictable dog. Children that young don't know how to behave around animals and aren't really capable of detecting body language beyond being shouted at by an adult or being smiled at. They're not going to know if a dog feels threatened.
