Final Fantasy X-3?

Final Fantasy X could see another sequel if series writer Kazushige Nojima gets his way. According to an interview in the HD Remaster Ultimania released alongside the game this week, Nojima touched on the possibility of a potential third entry in the sub-series by trotting out the typical fan demand mantra – saying that if there were enough demand, then there could possibly be new developments. He himself would, however, like to see a sequel such as “Final Fantasy X-3.”

That said, it should be noted that FFX-2 already has a sequel of sorts in the form of a newly released novel titled Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~The Eternal Calm~ which takes place following the events of X-2 and is penned by Nojima as well.

According to reports from Japan, the audio drama heavily hints toward X-3 too!

Aye, though I reckon they'd do a better job with X-3, Square havent been as sloppy with Final Fantasy games recently, especially now they have a group of people managing the series.

in the minority when it comes to FFX-2 but i loved it, not as much as FFX because it was perfect in every way but i liked how it stuck true to FFX, Spira didn't change much at all they didn't do a complete overhaul on locations, Music score and at the same time introduced a lot of great characters like good old Nooj and Nippal. kept all of the major characters and most of the minor characters in the game some way or another, never really got use to Paine though she was a bit bland compared to Yuna and Rikku

X-2 was pretty good despite the abrasive theme of the story. I've accidental encountered some spoilers about the Audio Drama and the FF X-2.5 book which sets up the potential X-3 and I don't think I like where it's going.

I've read the basic story outline of both, while they first made me say "whaaaaaa" I think there is definately quite a bit that has been lost in translation, and gaps filled by fans. Also, a certain ending spoiler might not be the main focus of X-3.

Novo 03-01-2014 06:07 PM

have you got the link to the story outline Chewy?

Scarlett. 03-01-2014 06:51 PM

I can go one better, I have the link to the audio drama with English subs (Japanese audio still)

A lot of stuff slots into place in my head much better now, a lot of people didnt read in between the lines at some of the stuff said by characters in the drama.

Novo 03-01-2014 07:30 PM

that was extremely weird.. especially towards the end

As a bit of back story (and I'm not spoiler tagging this because the book wont come out over here), Tidus apparently died, and was ressurected by Yuna somehow, which somehow damaged the Farplane, hopefully someone will translate what happened in the book properly, because there is a lot of conflicting stuff.

Novo 03-01-2014 07:51 PM

I just read a few summaries of the Audio Clip, seems like a lot of people hate it and think it into some Teenage Reality TV Drama

I just saw someone post this on a fan forum

Spoiler:

From what scant details I could find about the plot, it involves Tidus dying...again. He and Yuna end up shipwrecked on a mysterious island somehow, and Tidus dies during the shipwrecking. Yuna is able to reconjure him up from the Farplane again somehow, but the re-revived Tidus doesn't seem to be himself.

And as a result of this, the Farplane begins to grow unstable, setting up the events of the audio drama. Pyrefly images of the dead suddenly seem sentient, and even Sin itself returns. As a result of the events of the X-2.5 novel, Yuna changes as well, and becomes a recluse in Besaid temple.

How over the top do they want to make it

Square are going to totally destroy this series if they go down these routes in any future games, i was on the fence with FFX-3 but after the audio clip and the summary of the Novel it just reminds me of how bad the writing really is for the franchise at the minute

Scarlett. 03-01-2014 07:55 PM

It depends where they go with the story next, I guess. It is all written by the original X writer, though.

How can you possibly go from Writing a Masterpiece like FFX and then come up with this ****. it's so lazy for them to bring back Sin as well, The Sin Storyline ended perfectly.

I dont think the real story will be about Sin as a whole, more about the farplane instead, and who in fact "brought back" (I cant see that Sin being the real one) Sin.

Tom4784 03-01-2014 11:20 PM

I think my main issues is that it pretty much voids both X and X-2's stories and plus what I've heard of the translations they've pretty much turned Yuna and Tidus into Lightning and Cloud, miserable personality vacuums.

Scarlett. 03-01-2014 11:58 PM

The book has apparently been recieved very badly in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if that little entry is voided from canon, the audio drama isn't that bad, but the sudden return of Sin seems a little silly, perhaps it will be something that is addressed in another piece of media? I really doubt that if they made X-3, that Sin would be the bad guy, its definately more likely that its something deeper in the farplane.

Scarlett. 05-01-2014 02:36 AM

Looking more into this, I kinda doubt that all this will relate to X-3, and if it does, they will change things up. When you think about it, at this point in time they're still thinking "We might make X-3, it all depends if 'FFX HD' sells" that means, they'd probably be waiting until later this year for sales figures, which then means, they'd have to start putting together a team to work on the game and so on. Production would likely take 4-5 years, since they'd have to make all assets from scratch. I doubt they'd set up a story for a game that wouldnt be out until at least 2016/2017. I don't mind the general ideas that are kicked about in the audio drama, but they'd have to be retold in the game, as not everyone will have played the HD editions, they could easily take that opportunity to mould it into something a little more fitting.
