Police are searching for two 12-year-old girls reported missing after a walk to a local bus stop, Scotland Yard has said.

Friends Wiktoria Popiel, from Wood Green, and Vitalija Sidlauskaite, from Tottenham, north London, were last seen together on Morley Avenue in Wood Green at around 5pm on Saturday.

Wiktoria was walking Vitalija to a bus stop on nearby Lordship Lane but did not return home

The Metropolitan Police said they may have got on a bus towards Tottenham or have gone to the ice rink at Alexandra Palace.

A police spokesman said: "Their disappearance is completely out of character for both girls and they have never gone missing before.

"Their families and police are extremely concerned for their welfare and urge anyone who sees them or who has information about their whereabouts to call police on 101."

Wiktoria was wearing glasses, a brown jacket with fur around the hood, blue jeans and blue trainers. She speaks English and Polish.

Vitalija was wearing blue jeans and a black jacket. She speaks English and Russian

or were they taken by someone else

Cherie 12-01-2014 09:44 AM

They may have run away.

Yes but 12 is young

Cherie 12-01-2014 10:21 AM

It is very young. It looks like one was walking the other to the bus stop, maybe they were not allowed to do something and went and did it any way and think they are in trouble, I hope so.

Police hunting for two 12-year-old girls who went missing in London say they have been found safe and well.

Best friends Wiktoria Popiel and Vitalija Sidlauskaite were last seen in Wood Green at around 5pm on Saturday.

Wiktoria was walking Vitalija to a bus stop on Lordship Lane but did not return home.

It is not known where they were found or the circumstances of their disappearance.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police are pleased to report that Wiktoria Popiel and Vitalija Sidlauskaite have been found safe and well.

"We thank the media and the public for their assistance."

On Sunday morning, Vitalija's tearful mother told Sky she was "desperate for news".

She said the pair were very close friends, and she was searching parks and hospitals in a desperate bid to find them.

Wiktoria's first cousin Alicja Ochramowicz said: "It was just a normal evening, she left the house with he friend and she said 'I'll be back shortly'."

"All she had was her Oyster card, no mobile phone, no spare clothes ... it is not even an option that she has run away."

...great news...

Thank God, I feared the worst when I read the OP, glad they've been found safe and well!

Oh thank god. These things very often have a terrible outcome. I remember being devastated when little Holly and Jessica went missing and Ian Huntley was all over the papers. Sickening.

Cherie 12-01-2014 02:55 PM

Looks like these 2 will be grounded until they are 24.

I remember that case so well, that summer seemed awful, my parents were really upset by it because they were the same age as me; when I remember that case I can never shake the thought that they should be the same age as me... :(

Glad this has been resolved with a happy ending!

Not mine I'm more concerned, what were they running for would be my first thought.

Livia 13-01-2014 01:34 PM

I had a virtually perfect childhood and still there were times I plotted to run away. They probably didn't get all the crap they wanted for Christmas... and if it is the case they were running away from something I hope they get sorted. However, if not, I hope they are made to understand what they must have put their parents through.

Z 13-01-2014 01:46 PM

I think I once decided to run away to the park round the corner (i.e. go play and not tell my parents) when I was about 10 years old because all bar one of my best friends at primary school had left and I didn't want another one to go :joker: don't think my parents even noticed, I was back again an hour later probably...

:o It's always weird when somewhere you know well appears in the news! There was a drugs bust on our old street the other night (might have been last night, can't remember now, all the days blur into one) and not long ago police shut down a brothel that was in a flat opposite where two of my best friends live

 I actually think there's nothing worse than hating the place you're living in, if you're not happy in the place you call home, it really affects everything else in your life... I've been lucky that I've only really lived in two places that I really hated and thankfully no creepy landlords!!

Oh that's good at least! I was the same with one of the two places I lived in that I hated, moved out after 3 months... the other one I was locked into a year long contract, left after 10 months to go home for the last two, couldn't bear it any longer!

Well you become completely miserable if you don't have a comfortable "home" don't you? I used to be always trying to find reasons to stay out and was literally just going back there to sleep and then i was gone again the next morning

Same, I'd be out all day, dreaded going back to a freezing cold flat, I was genuinely warmer outside than inside for most of the year!
