This has been asked before, it would mean even less posting on the forum than there is now.

Z 13-01-2014 02:18 PM

I miss the karma system. It was essentially a thanks button - I'd love to see it brought back but with an additional feature that you could see which posts you'd been plussed or minused for. It would be anonymous, so you wouldn't know who had done it (although you might be able to guess) but you would see what people liked and disliked about your posts

After all the so-called problems with karma (quite tame by today's, or 2010's, standards ) maybe it'd be better to reintroduce it without the minussing option? (Since that's the only one that could feasibly be abused). Positive karma for posts and so on.

James was thinking of bringing it back a while ago I think, not sure if he still is or not.

Kate! 13-01-2014 05:12 PM

Yes to karma, just positive though as Shaun says. Negging would just cause aggro lol.

T* 13-01-2014 05:19 PM

Can we call it something othe than karma tho

Jack_ 13-01-2014 05:38 PM

The option to 'like' posts should have been added a long time ago, so yeah, positive karma only but on a post-by-post basis

And I really disagree with the notion that it would make people post less? :conf: just because I agree with a particular post now it doesn't mean I'll not add my own bits to the discussion

Jessica. 13-01-2014 05:44 PM

Does it really matter if someone clicks "thanks" on a post instead of saying "[2}", not a huge loss. :laugh3:

I'm trying to think of a word like "appreciation" or "value" or "prestige" without it sounding a bit elitist... I'm sure whatever it's called some might moan about that but oh well.

Maybe call it something harmless like 'Post Points' (PP).

Kate! 13-01-2014 05:47 PM

Kudos?

Jessica. 13-01-2014 05:51 PM

This is just a random post from another forum that I spotted while googling something recently.
This is how it works there: Each post has a thank you button as seen on the bottom right, if you click thanks then the button disappears and your name appears underneath the post. Thanks count as the only way to receive karma and there are no negatives. They add to the stars under the names.

Terrible idea. A reputation system should be a reputation system, but setting it up for rep-whoring won't add anything to the forum, especially when the same old faces, are ploughing rep into each other.

Shaun 13-01-2014 05:53 PM

Oh, that could be quite nice I suppose then (Jess.)

Marc 13-01-2014 07:14 PM

The Karma system had it's pros but it could essentially lead to people just targeting certain members and minusing them

Ramsay 13-01-2014 07:29 PM

The thanks system works great on another forum i use

MTVN 13-01-2014 07:30 PM

Don't really like the idea, feel it sorta puts pressure on posting making it more of a contest to see who can get the most 'thanks', would be endlessly abused in any arguments and stuff as well

I agree with that and also don't see that many posts on here that would need a thanks tbh, what would it be used for someone posting a news article, or a video

And even at that if you want to say thanks then just post a reply saying that and who knows maybe add a few other words that could lead to worthwhile discussion.

Jack_ 13-01-2014 07:40 PM

'Thanks' is definitely the wrong word, it would be a feature used to acknowledge good posts made in threads, so say there's a debate ongoing and someone enters with a post which would usually receive a few '[2]' or 'this' or 'good post', you could + it and show your appreciation. If anything I think it'd encourage people to make better posts and put more thought and effort into them

And if people really did just abuse it by plussing random posts or gifs or whatever idk (not that it would really matter anyway it's just a forum who cares) then get rid of it? It's worth a go, it's only a positive system

reece(: 13-01-2014 07:51 PM

I think it's a great idea, can let people know they're appreciated more

Me. I Am Salman 13-01-2014 07:54 PM

We should have + rating and - rating. don't keep it anonymous and that'll stop people abusing it, and don't make it count towards anything which will further deter people from abusing it

Jordan. 13-01-2014 08:13 PM

I don't really care but I'd use it if it was added.

isn't it...kind of...your job... to deal with that then...?

also who on earth would really get wound up about it?

Amy Jade 13-01-2014 11:48 PM

Don't see the point, it would probably just turn into just another a popularity thing
