We used to have a dining room and a tiny kitchen, but then we extended the house and so they're now just one massive kitchen with a dining area

I have a dining room but it only get used as a dining room at Christmas, every other day it's used as an office.

Yes and It's actually the most important area of the house because It's where we all have dinner together and just generally have a just good chat and a little drink. I wouldn't like if everyone in my family had dinner in their bedrooms watching TV.

..yeah we do but we mostly just eat there at weekends and at the kitchen table during the week or if it's just me then I'll just eat in the lounge...

Yes, it is used every day for dining.

We also have a lovely comfy leather sofa in there for a bit of quiet reading.
