What should I do? shop dilemma.

The other day My son, niece and I went to a local mill shop. Whilst there my son tried on a novelty hat, came to show me, and we laughed.
The store owner came over and asked him to remove it and said something about hygiene...
Without thinking I apologised and told my son to put it back.

Thing is, now I'm annoyed at myself for doing that as my son was upset and embarrassed, he really did want to buy the hat.
The store has shoes and clothes for sale, are people supposed to buy those without trying them on?...

Thing is my niece asked if I wanted to go to store again on thurs, do I go and explain how I feel to the owner?

Z 21-01-2014 01:33 AM

I can understand the hygiene thing (e.g. head lice) but it's pretty weird to tell someone not to try on the products in the shop? How else are you supposed to know if you want to buy it? I think you should go again and if the owner says anything to you again then you should have a quiet word with him, just sounds like he was taking his job a bit too seriously on that particular day.

Kizzy 21-01-2014 01:38 AM

My son doesn't have lice!... he's not you! :joker:

Drew. 21-01-2014 01:40 AM

:joker:

But yeah go back to the shop, let him try all the hats on that he can get his hands on just to annoy them, then buy the one he wanted.

 That kinda thing though, you never know who's been trying on clothes before you D:

Josy 21-01-2014 01:43 AM

I wouldn't even give them any custom

Jack_ 21-01-2014 01:46 AM

March back in with your son, put the hat on him, walk up to this guy demanding an apology and that if you don't get one you'll roundhouse him in the face

Then have your son kick him in the balls for the mega lolz~

MTVN 21-01-2014 01:49 AM

I would just leave it really, not worth making a big fuss over it  but then I am a complete pushover who tries to avoid conflict at all times

Kizzy 21-01-2014 01:57 AM

Actually zee has a point, he could have caught lice from the hat....
It's a panda hat with ears and a scarf with paw mitts on the end btw...A fashion essential for all 16yr olds apparently.

HD 21-01-2014 02:09 AM

FORCE nits upon your son, strut back (with son) and make him try every single hat.

job's a good'un

Kizzy 21-01-2014 02:36 AM

Um no.... but I will have to think of a very cunning plan to get my revenge

Drew. 21-01-2014 02:38 AM

I know some men that can get you the hat for free

Kizzy 21-01-2014 02:42 AM

No... I don't like tea leaves!
I'm poor but honest haha!

Ammi 21-01-2014 04:33 AM

..I guess every shop has it's own policy, especially if it's a smaller shop but I think it's unreasonable to think someone would buy a hat without trying it on...I guess if you feel strongly enough about it, then yeah go back and tell the shop owner that you think it's a ridiculous policy to have but I doubt it'll make him change anything....

Kizzy 21-01-2014 04:38 AM

I don't want him to change anything... Just feel my wrath. LOL

Ammi 21-01-2014 04:43 AM

..yeah, if it's something you feel strongly about, it is the most stupid thing to say someone can't try a hat on to see if it suits them...I don't think that headlice can be transferred through something like that because I think they're only attracted to 'living' as in another person's head in direct contact..but even if it was possible, then every high street store runs that risk as well because people can try them on there and if that was his concern then the most logical thing would be for him to insist on some sort of shower cap thing to be provided and worn for people to try them on....

Kizzy 21-01-2014 05:04 AM

I know, remember when shoe shops used to have a manky stocking for when you wanted to try shoes but had no socks on?

Ammi 21-01-2014 05:13 AM

..I think some shops still have those..?..I hated the thought of them and always wore something on my feet if I was going to be trying on shoes...yeah, horrible things....

Kate! 21-01-2014 06:42 AM

Ew yeah - I would not put my feet inside something sweaty that others had tried on, ugh. If I'm trying on shoes I have my own clean tights or pop socks on.

Kate! 21-01-2014 06:45 AM

And sorry Kizzy that was completely off topic, with regard to your post, I'd definitely go back and say something, explain how it made your son feel, if he's got any decency he should hear you out and apologise especially if he values custom. Sadly these days a lot of shopkeepers don't give a toss.

Cherie 21-01-2014 06:55 AM

The shop owner can't expect you not to try on a hat, after all you could have taken it home, tried it on many heads and then returned it with the receipt?

thesheriff443 21-01-2014 06:56 AM

my take on the situation is this, I think those hats get a lot of people trying them on and having a laugh with them, I think the owner was thinking you where just another customer having a laugh using his stock as a prop!.
as your son is 16 this adds to the fact.
the owner is running a serious business not a joke shop.
don't do anything.

Natalie. 21-01-2014 07:03 AM

Go to the shop, knock some hats on the floor then walk out shop
