CARRIE (2013)

Has anyone seen the remake?
Watched it last night and surprised myself by actually really enjoying it.
That's unusual for me and a horror these days, although I didn't really find it scary.

Both Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore are brilliant in it.

The remake is good, still can't beat the original though or the book.

Agree that it can't beat the book.
I think it's brilliant for a remake and preferred it to the original. But think that was probably because it was pretty dated when I first watched it. Although I can imagine it was brilliant at the time (much like The Exorcist).

They did a good job with the remake, I was impressed, I worry with remakes especially ones based on Stephen King novels.

They should never remake Misery or The Shining. That's a cert.

Benjamin 28-01-2014 04:35 AM

They are remaking The Shining are they not or are they making a sequel? I forget, but yes Misery needs to be left untouched, nothing can beat Kathy bates' performance in that :worship:

Oh God. Please no!
Yes! Kathy Bates is incredible in that movie.

It was enjoyable, but I would have liked a little more focus on the actual carnage. It was all over very quickly.

..have you seen the original, how did it compare..?...I'm not sure I want to see it, remakes quite often disappoint...

Shaun 28-01-2014 05:00 AM

No, I haven't seen the original :( Loved the book, though.

Ammi 28-01-2014 05:04 AM

..yeah, I loved the book as well and I also loved the original movie and I'm not much of a horror fan either so I think maybe I'll just leave it at that and not watch the remake in case it's disappointing..Sissy Spacek is Carrie..I wonder what happened to her, if she retired from acting because she was a great actress ...

I do sometimes think that if you really love a film then it's best to not taint it with a remake.
I think you have to look at the remake as a separate movie from the original. It works quite well as a metaphor for high school life nowadays and I think it gives the younger/my generation an opportunity to fully appreciate the story.

Hmm, I get what you mean. Although, it was very similar to the original, in the fact that the carnage doesn't play out till the last half hour of the film.
I kinda liked it that way, because it really made me feel for the character of Carrie, by giving us an hour of development. But I do agree that it could have been longer.

james130 29-01-2014 02:29 AM

Having re-watched the original tonight, it's pretty terrible how much is the same. The locker room scene is almost an exact copy, down to the "plug it up". "Creepy Carrie" from the boy on the bike and "dirty pillows".
I wouldn't be surprised if they had to credit the original screen writer.

Having said that, I can't really decide which I prefer. Like 'The Hitcher' &'Nigtmare' I think I like both the original and remake equally.
Controversially, I think I prefer both Chloe and definitely Julianne in the roles. Although I think Chloe is too 'pretty' even before prom.
That's not to knock Sissy and Piper's performances. I think both were also brilliant.
I definitely think the remake's more successful in setting up the background and character development.

Does she die and then rise at the end? Where her hand punches out of the grave or am I thinking of another film?

Yeah, that's the one.
Doesn't happen quite like that in the remake though.

james130 29-01-2014 03:31 AM

Also
Spoiler:

Was so glad that she saved Miss Desjardin in the remake instead of killing her. Always hated that in the original.

Moviefan 29-01-2014 08:59 AM

I seen all 3 verison
1976
2002
2013

Remakes are no were near as good as the first movie,

I do think Angela Bettis did a better Job of playing Carrie in 2002 then Chloë Grace Moretz did in 2013 remake.

Sissy Spacek will always be the best Carrie.

What I did like in 2013 remake was that, they added the birth scenes, we nice add to the movie, after that, I thought the movie was really poor!

I thought Julianne Moore was outstanding playing Margaret White

Only reason I gave it 4 out of 10 for 2013 remake, I gave first 10/10, I even enjoyed TV remake 6 out of 10.
