Teachers to strike in England and Wales over Pay - Weds March 26th
 

[Teachers are to stage a national strike
in a long-running row over pay,
pensions and conditions.
Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT)
in England and Wales will walk out on 26 March
after accusing Michael Gove,
the education secretary,
of "persistently refusing" to
address their complaints.
The union has held a series of
strikes since first balloting its
members almost three years ago,
but called off industrial action
during recent talks.
Christine Blower, the union's
general secretary, said: "Michael Gove's
persistent refusals to address our ongoing
dispute over pay, pensions and
conditions of service,
is unnecessary and deeply damaging.]

Pay them more money. And tell them, no more 36 week years. They get maximum five weeks off.

They seem to strike every other week.

Also aren't they trying to fine parents who take their kids out of school in term time? Hmm...

Fine them for interfering with our kids education,how dare they give the kids a day off in term time!!

Yep, I actually think they want to extend the school day so parents can work longer hours and they intend to train some chimps to teach these kids at these 'education camps'.
Family, community and social cohesion shall be wiped out.

Laughing at the dramatic reasons here given for the unrest... when it's actually nothing to do with the kids' welfare, but the teachers pay and pensions.

And why should that be any less valid a reason?
I have teachers in my family and I can assure you they do not kick up their heels and have a fine old time in the school holidays.

I would agree that the responsibility the Teachers have is a heavy one and they also really have their hands tied behind their backs most of the time in dealing with 'difficult' pupils too.

No one party however has the answers to the problems, I said in the past that Education needs to be taken out of being a poitical football and fair, secure and consistent policies across the board be put in place in full consultation with politicians,unions,teachers and parents.

This farcical nonsense of fining parents for this and that is ridiculous and not the way to go on at all.
Maybe there is a case for looking again at Teachers pensions and pay as well.
Nothing is solved by tearing down what one Govt fdoes and endlessly fiddling with the examining and teaching procedures.

The public at large would listen more if politicians grew up and actually educated themselves to act better by bringing in an agreed consensus as to Education policy.
That would then also leave littel room for the Teachers to so often get hot under the collar at the endless changes that take place and may help avoid striking action in the future.

I have to say, the extended day is not a bad idea in principle,as long as the school os adequately staffed and fit for the purpose.
Michael Gove doesn't mean they have to have their heads in books and heads down learning all the time but to be involved in exercise and other activities.
He also would need to beyond all doubt,be able to ensure the safety of children in extended time in the school area and also their full safety in getting home too.

Every party has good ideas for education, it is time the good elements of across the board policies were worked at to become policy and the other daft ideas for silly reasons,like just being different, got consigned to the scrapheap.

Until that happens and I guess it never will, no party can or will succeed as to education policy and also never satisfy the Teaching profession either.
That is a very sad state of affairs to be in with the people we elect to power.

Politicians do a lot of talking when in Govt, well I like the saying that we have 2 ears and one mouth and would be better therefore listening twice as much as we are talking.

It's all well and good having all these 'theories' but who is going to put them into practice?
Make teachers responsible for the moral. social and emotional as well as educational needs of the nations kids... as that's what's being proposed with these all day schools.
So they work a longer more challenging day for many more years, I don't understand why it's alien to imagine this isn't a rosy prospect.

Do teachers never get fed of trying to cause yet more trouble? They get endless weeks of holidays, well paid, and even then they aren't happy. They should give themselves detention. :fist:

Teachers should be blamed for the state of the youth. the youth of Britain are a disgrace therefore the teachers are a disgrace, so why the **** do they think they deserve more money? When they start churning out better results, they will deserve more money.
