So how many of us tibb members suffers with an illness

After reading an article on Hollywood actors who talked about illness's they have and live with I was just wondering is anyone is open enough to talk about it franlky here?

Would be nice to see what forum members could relate and share their experiences.

Sharing is caring after all lol.

Erm, not sure if this counts but I have something called Costochondritis. Its pretty much incurable apparently but its one of those things that can just come on randomly, stay for years then disappear for no reason. It feels like someone is tightening a belt around my rib cage, and attacks tend t last around 4 hours, during which time I cant move, but it hurts to stay still too. This is part of the reason for my codeine dependency tbh

InOne 18-02-2014 12:06 AM

I've been diagnosed with bipolar and I'm a chronic alcoholic. I'm am doing a course so I class myself as functioning I guess

Do you have to take meds for the Bipolar and coming off drink must be awful when temptation is everywhere, so many people don't even know they are dependent on alcohol so atleast you have admitted it.

Good you're doing something about it, hope things go well none of us want to see you carted off to rehab by Jeremy Kyle lol.

BBfanUSA 18-02-2014 12:19 AM

I have minor anxiety.

I have a Lazy eye (I can't see through my left eye basically, I look through life with just one eye, unless I'm tired you can't tell.)

BigSister 18-02-2014 12:19 AM

i have diabetes which I have been treated for since 2011. This has made my eye sight go a lot worse resulting in my injections to stabalise it

My main aim is to help people with drink problems. I've never really got help with my bipolar which probably affects drinking a lot. I will definitely be thrown into rehab at some point LOL. But no matter what you learn, all the tools, triggers, escape plans.. You gotta want it

100% if someone is hell bent on doing what they want and dont want to keep fighting against something their bodies natural cravings or don't really care that much, tools and all that could help but not cure in the case of Bipolar anyway im assuming the only way to really treat that is drugs.

Why have you never tried anything if you don't mind me asking.?

The meds I take also helps people who suffer with bipolar but I don't take them for that reason.

I've tried a few meds but it never lasted them cos of the way I drink. I definitely will look into it again at some point.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder and recurrent panic attacks. Used to suffer from asthma but grew out of it as I got older.

Seems like a lot of people suffer with anxiety or depression on here.

Might be something to do with it being easier to say behind the safety net of relative anonymity.

In real life we aren't afforded that luxury so many people keep it private.

I'm not sure whether it's described as an illness as such but I have hyperhidrosis which really sucks. It makes my hands go really sweaty almost all of the time, which gets really awkward if I'm in a situation where I know I'm going of have to shake someone's hand because I get uber nervous and so they get even worse. :(

I had to shake a few peoples hand on my work experience and the looks on all of their faces was painful when I did, one even wiped their hand on their trousers afterwards. It probably sounds silly reading it here but when this always happens it really knocks your confidence, knowing every time you touch someone in any way you'll get that reaction. Even high fiving someone is impossible.

It can affect the rest of my body too in high temperatures so I always have to dress really light in the summer and generally stick to white/black shirts or else I look like a complete mess. The worst thing is that there's no medication that makes it better, you're stuck with it for life, which does make me concerned about the future in terms of jobs and relationships and such.

..and the thing is that the more you get anxious about it and worry, the worse it gets, you know that Richard.....

..I'm not sure that there isn't anything that can be done though, here's a link to one website but there are more and I think that there is medication to help..but if that doesn't work for you..maybe you could look into therapies which help with the anxiety and worry about it and that would ease it..?...

I have allergies. Most if the time they're not too bad, but sometimes i feel like my nose completely closes up. But it gets better with allergy tabets.

There's a few treatments that are supposed to work but I've tried all and none of them have worked. The most effective is supposed to be 'iontophoresis' which doesn't cure it but just makes it better for a few weeks. I tried that last summer and it didn't do anything. I went to the hospital three times a week for 6 weeks for the treatment which literally consisted of me putting my hands in a bowl of water and them sending an electric current through the water to shock my hands each time but it did nothing at all. :(

Kate! 18-02-2014 10:17 AM

Anxiety and panic attacks, insomnia (not so much an illness that one, but a long term problem)

Gallstones for which I have meds to control thank goodness cos it's very painful. I'll eventually have to have the gall bladder removed but not yet.

.aww, that sounds like not the greatest of experiences either, Richard...what about anxiety therapies..?..it won't cure it but might ease it if you didn't get so anxious about being in certain situations...

I have a hereditary issue with my joints that mean almost all of them (ankles, knees, shoulders, wrists etc.) Click and crack quite often. Both of my shoulders dislocate very easily if I'm not "prepared" for force on them - basically it's not an issue with lifting / using my arm strength at all so long as my shoulder muscles are tensed, but any "surprise" push or pull on my arms will make them pop.

I get semi-regular aches in both shoulders, that I would describe as similar to having a pulled muscle and putting pressure on it (e.g. trying to walk on a pulled hamstring, but constant). My right knee is also pretty well wrecked - it only occasionally hurts but it clicks and makes a "crunch" sound constantly, I suspect there's very little cartilage and it might well become a problem later in life (i.e. need replaced).

Part of the same issue, I also occasionally have my lower back go out completely, when it goes it's hard to walk / move and I think twice has literally floored me (with all my strength I couldn't push off the floor, let alone walk). The most this is ever happened is twice in the space of a year and an "attack" lasts at most two days, with another two days of very stiff muscles. So its not really something I have to live with day to day... Just something that crops up occasionally. The pain is indescribable, though.

Both issues (general joint pains, shoulders, knee AND the back issue) are all alleviated quite significantly if I cut out inflamatory foods (gluten) and my shoulders and back are significantly better if I keep the shoulder, arm and lower back muscles strong with weights. However... Unfortunately... I'm quite lazy and never keep it up, and I also have a terrible weakness for everything wheat related! Pizza, pasta, bread, donuts.... Hahaha... Mmmm. I should really go totally gluten free as Ive never felt better than the one time I managed it for 2 months (no shoulder pain at all, which is otherwise a daily thing for me) but it's just impossible. The stuff is in every delicious food ever :(.
