Sam Faiers diagnosed with Crohn's disease

Quote:

TOWIE star Sam Faiers has been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease following a six week illness.

The sick 23-year-old has lost a stone and a half since her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in January.

Now tests have shown she is suffering from the inflammatory bowel disease, and could even require surgery.

Crohn’s is a long term illness, which means Sam will suffer relapses, periods of poor health, and remissions, periods of good health, for the rest of her life.

Researchers believe it is genetic, but can be set by a number of triggers including viruses, stress or dietary issues.

Sam collapsed during tests at a Harley Street clinic last month, and was rushed to a private hospital, where she was placed on a drip for 35 hours to rehydrate her.

She has since undergone blood tests, a CT scan, an ultrasound and last week, had a colonoscopy.
Poor Sam :(

I think she's been on some kind of weird diet is all, there was an article about her using those raspberry keytones but warning to use a reputable supplier.. my guess is she's malnourished due to taking some bogus health supplement.

Ah, that's pretty **** :(

Black Dagger 20-02-2014 05:06 PM

How awful. Feel a bit nasty now that I was so horrible during her stint in the house.

Pete. 20-02-2014 05:07 PM

Natalie. 20-02-2014 05:08 PM

zakman440 20-02-2014 06:16 PM

Poor Sam.

Kazanne 20-02-2014 06:24 PM

Isn't that what Mizzy has on here, sure she said she had it?

King Gizzard 20-02-2014 06:30 PM

Terrible illness from all I've read into it/seen in the news with people like Darren Fletcher

:(

Raph 20-02-2014 06:44 PM

Aw poor Sam, she came across as such a nice girl during the show :(

Mystic Mock 20-02-2014 08:32 PM

I wish her the best of luck on getting back on top health, I do blame BB though for people distrusting her illness while she was in the house though because Big Brother has lied so many times over the years it's kind of hard to tell when they are being truthful and when they're not.

Yes, it doesn't seem to hold her back much. Maybe it's just a case of strictly monitoring your diet and exercise?

Oooh had never heard of these til now despite it apparently being a big craze last year. Might try this once I have had the baby actually...sounds quite good from reading about.

Chron's is awful. My mothers ex had it..he was always running for the loos when we were out and he was seriously thin despite eating like a horse

Kizzy 20-02-2014 09:29 PM

Just eat better there really are no quick fixes vicky... believe me I've spent 20yrs trying to find one :joker:

Vicky. 20-02-2014 09:32 PM

2.99 on amazon for a months supply, worth a try ;)

I managed to lose nearly 2 stone in a month before by putting myself into ketosis(though I didnt realise thats what I done at the time...). So there are quick fixes. Crept back on over the years though when I started eating crap again :joker:

BigBrotherfan4ever 20-02-2014 09:38 PM

I've just been reading about this, poor Sam, it's a horrible illness a old neighbour of mine had it & she had to have numerous operations because of it.

mizzy25 20-02-2014 09:38 PM

Hi yes I do have it and was told it has nothing to do with your diet, which I don't think is right like as if I eat too much crap im bad.I think myself its brought on by stress but I did find out a very old uncle of mine had it.I wouldn't wish it on anyone not even my worst enemy. before I knew what was wrong with me I went through 3 months of hell, I couldn't eat as it would go straight through me, the pains were horrendous, I even left a job after 2 weeks as I couldn't get off the toilet. @ 1st they thought it was IBS but a verfy nice dr insisted on sending me for a colonscopy @ the time they cud have stuck a red hot iron up my backside as I just wanted to know wtf was wrong and could anything be done? Im on medication for life for it which seems to control it along with taking 1 codeine a day but if I get any pains or the runs I take more codeine which seems to do the trick. I go to the hospital every 6 months for regular check ups but if im ever to have a very bad flare up I have to ring them straight away. @ 1st they put me on steroids for 8 weeks as its inflammation, then they put me on a few diff kinds of meds until they found the right one. Before I got diagnosed with it id never heard of it, but its surprising how many people have it as when in remission you can like me lead a perfectly normal life. The guy who plays cain dingle in emmerdale has got it.

mizzy25 20-02-2014 09:40 PM

I always like to know where theres a toilet when im out too lol @ the end of march im doing a 6 mile obstacle course and im delighted to say theres a toilet @ either end lol just incase.

Z 20-02-2014 09:42 PM

Poor thing, a friend of mine has it and it's seriously awful for her; and complications related to Crohn's killed my dad's best friend just over a year ago... :/

Kizzy 20-02-2014 10:24 PM

How healthy is that though? imagine what's going on underneath vicky..no point being thin on the outside when you're organs and muscle are exhausted, strained and drained.
You are risking your health more than if you were 7lbs overweight.

Vicky. 20-02-2014 10:47 PM

Being in ketosis is actually healthy, and is used by docs as a way to control epilepsy and some other illnesses. Some docs advise it if you need to lose weight fast too

But this is slightly offtopic now

jackc1806 20-02-2014 11:01 PM

Aww:( hope she learns to manage it well and that it is only mild

MTVN 20-02-2014 11:07 PM

Ah that's awful for her, hope she's doing alright

Sorry mizzy didn't see this my sis had tests for it too, after testing she was diagnosed with coeliac, your symptoms sound horrific does the toilet issues mean you don't metabolise food well? She was real thin and they said it was stopping her from absorbing any nutrients in her food :( had to have a bone scan and had early onset osteoporosis, luckily by taking high strength calcium she'll be fine.
Have you had to change your diet much?

I felt that she was so ill (she spent 2 of the 3 weeks in bed) that she should have been taken out it wasn't fair on her fans voting for her when she had hardly been seen! and it can't have been fair on her fellow HMs either.
