Advice needed: Im going in for an operation next Thursday and...
Have been told various things about not being able to take certain medications, eat certain foods ect and its got me ****ing worried.
For instance im not supposed to take a vitamin tablet 2 weeks before....Erm I took one this morning but it seems so far fetched...Does this mean I will die from 1 vitamin tablet..c'mon. If anyone who has experienced going under anesthetic here (out cold) can you give me your story's like how strict with yourself were you and what was you advised to do ect. Its not major heart surgery or anything literally just a 2 hour day patient thing. Stressed, should never have researched it online!!!! |
I thought they just liked you to fast the day before, incase you were sick when under. Never heard of them being that strict :o

Do I really have to tell them every little thing ive taken, ive give up the alcohol and smoking for 6 weeks, eating healthy, exercising and after medicals everything is spot on. Like im in perfect working order. I thought it was just don't eat 6 hours before and obviously don't be out partying leading up to it. |
I have had a few ops under anesthetic both local and general.
Only ever fasted the morning of the ops. Good luck with it. |

I took a sleeping pill last night and now im afraid that will interact with the whole thing even though its like a week away lol.
Just gonna think happy thoughts. |
All they told me was don't have anything to eat after 9pm the night before. That's it. Try not to stress too much (easy to say I know) it'll be over before you know it.

I hope all goes well for you Daniel, surprising some things the hospital ask people not to do.
I had a friend who was brain damaged and on medication, when he had to go for some operative procedure or intravenous thing, they always said not to take his meds the day before. Then when we got there and said he hadn't, they suggested we give him some of the tablets he had to take? It does depend what they are doing but it is best to tell them if you have had anything just in case, wouldn't worry about the sleeping pill, that will be well out of your system anyway by the time you go. Their worry may be that if it is a procedure that could be affected by certain medications etc, that is it best to avoid them all until after it. I would Just tell them anything you have had though. |
Vitamin tablets are no use to you but do make money for pharmaceutical companies
stop wasting your money |

..and good luck, you'll be cool... |
The only thing you really need to know is that you don't need to take vitamin tablets. It's a bunk industry that isn't based on science. unless you have a serious vitamin deficiency, then you should be steering clear.
They don't boost your immune system or any of the other things people think they help with. In fact - you're more likely to make yourself ill by overdosing on them. |
All done. Im telling you it pays to go private look at the difference to nhs cold toast and jelly to this bad boy of a meal.
Shame I couldn't frigging eat it though since I was so pumped up on morphine. Bastards. Now let the 12 weeks recovery commence. http://i.imgur.com/8srCn00.jpg |
Glad it went well Daniel
