Alibi dilemmas

Would you give a close friend a false alibi under the following circumstances

They murdered someone in self defence in fear of their own life?

They didn't murder someone but they've been charged with it anyway?

I would for my best friend, yea.

Same.

In both instances it wasn't their fault.

No, might be terrible for them but there's no point embroiling myself in it all and risk being sent to prison as well, they'd no doubt end up picking holes in my alibi anyway and I'd probably crumble under the pressure

I'd hope that if he was innocent the courts would free him, and if he did it in self defence he'd get a lighter sentence. I suppose I could testify to his good character or something if it would help

Also if they do work out my alibi is false it will only work against my friend and convince them he is guilty and trying to hide it

I only have like 2/3 best friends who I see a lot so yes

But if it's like one off the friend I see at college, then no

No to both I'm afraid, wouldn't want done for perjury if it came out that I was providing a false alibi.

Yes

I couldn't do it, I'd be too afraid to. I'd feel bad though.

Livia 27-02-2014 10:39 PM

No, probably not. But I would make sure they had excellent defence and trust the law to get it right.

BigSister 27-02-2014 11:53 PM

not a false one no but a proper one for the second one if i knew they were innocent .

Kizzy 28-02-2014 12:02 AM

I don't know, I suppose unless I was with them for the second one I could never be sure they didn't do it?
And the first it depends on the circs, if it was domestic violence my knee jerk reaction would be to say yes I would...

No, wouldn't want to be jailed for perjury
