Was Grand Theft Auto V a let down?

In the past, whenever I got a GTA game, I'd play it for weeks on end, months even, even GTA IV and all it's DLC. But GTA V... I only ever played it for two or three weeks, and I've not even felt like going back to it. The story in GTA V was a bit of a let down too, in the past we always got decent stories about criminals making their way through a murky underworld, in GTA V we got a bunch of guys doing heists. It's hilarious how quickly Franklin's story is swept under the rug, one minute he's living in the hood in his aunt's house, next he's in the Vinewood hills. The whole game feels kind of empty, we have such an engaging selection of minigames.

Yoga? What the ****, this is GTA. Tennis, fun, but ultimately boring. Golf? Yawn. The physics of the whole game felt like a less fun version of GTA IV, remember in GTA IV, when you could injure specific parts of enemies/civilians? Try that in GTA V. The helicopter controls were ****ed up for no apparent reason. Least of all GTA ****ing Online, remember having fun blowing people up at the airport in GTA IV? Remember being able to go on rampages with helicopters and not having to worry about being a "Bad Sport"?
GTA Online took everything that was fun from GTA IV's multiplayer, and threw it away.

Perhaps the thing that most disappointed me is, the stuff that was added in IV's dlcs wasnt carried over, you couldnt go to bars to get drunk or dance (mostly because the game lacks interiors). GTA V felt like a huge letdown to me, I hope for the next one they don't focus so much on Online and heists.

No, been playing it since launch. The open world is what I like not the missions. GTA iv is dark, clunky and old in comparison

No, gta 5 wasn't.
Saints row 4 (or.. Ahem... 3.5) was awful.

Wasn't hugely hyped for it after 4. Found it decent. Nothing special. There just wasn't enough fun missions.

No... only improvement would be more enterable buildings, and main storyline missions.

The story mode was definitely disappointing, but that's been more than made up for with the online mode. Play it every day and still not bored.

i did the exact same, Chewy... havent gone back to it since the first 3 weeks or so

Nah. Loved the story mode and online is just a gift that keeps on giving, I'm still not bored of it. Hell I'm even still finding new things in the map even now when I play it with my friends.

IV >>>>

Not played it in ages but it certainly wasn't a let down. Just got a bit bored with Online tbh, so not been on it in ages.

I know someone who plays who stops at red lights

It's bundles of fun. The internet and ever monstrous hype machine has fostered some weird "everything is a let down" climate but minor niggles and crap main story aside it's a towering achievement.

The multiplayer is why I want to get GTAV.

Joelle. 08-03-2014 03:34 PM

Yeah I agree with most of that. GTA IV was much better.

bbfan1991 08-03-2014 03:37 PM

No.. I don't think so!

I think there could have been more activities like open restaurants or clubs, gyms etc.

Hoping for some more content for story mode though. Rockstar Games are promising some, so it is looking likely.

I play online more then the single player, but it's a brilliant game
