The independent pay body recommendations have been ignored (MPs didn't ignore the recommedation of their paybody to increase their pay by 16% or whatever it was), and those on automatic increments will not receive this rise.

How many people in the private sector haven't had a rise at all this year, hands up...

Puts hand up. Not quite the point I was putting across, but interpret it as you wish.

You compered the offered rise to the public sector to MPs suggested rise while I compared it to private sector workers. Public sector workers' offer is a lot better than many private sector workers who haven't had a rise for a while.

If your point was about the MPs proposed rise, many MPs have come out against it. Although in fact, the late Bob Crow - and you don't get much more militant than him -was all for MPs being paid more because he didn't want his MP having to do another job too (as many MPs currently do) or to be a rich person with a private income.

If you are going to accept an Independent Pay Body's recommendation for MPs salaries but not for other salaries in the Public sector it's a bit unfair isn't it? The City are still enjoying nice bonuses so I wouldn't say it is an across the board pay freeze for the private sector either, just where it suits.

On the surface this actually amounts to an income cut since inflation has been way ahead of pay rises so for me this is a poor show and will inevitably cause problems for the Govt.

However,I will wait and see all that is in the budget statement to be made by the Chancellor.

This move however hasn't surprised me.
The public sector is another area like the vulnerable, poor and disabled that is the target for this Govts. venom of severity as to its plans/policies.

Recommendations are just that, recommendations. Nothing says you have to accept or reject them all.

The City creates a massive amount of wealth in this country. If we don't pay them nice big bonuses all the very best people bugger off to New York, or Paris or somewhere that does pay the bonuses. Then we really would be screwed..

we would also be screwed without bin collections! and nurses and police etc etc etc

I dont get any raises I just have to work longer and harder if i want more money

I got a 16p pay rise!! 16p per salaried hour that is, not 16p in the pound. It works out at something like £25 a month before tax. I've yet to decide what to spend this fortune on. Perhaps worth mentioning that people who already earn twice my salary got a pay raise that works out at around £180 per month. Seems about right.

But yes - this is the first pay raise of any kind we've had since mid 2011.

No in fact possessing it has pushed you into the higher rate of tax sorry.

I can't find anything to confirm that this is the case. It would have gone to a vote I would have thought?

delighted to see nurses pay almost frozen , they job they do is so often sub standard these days

business is very tight too, there are no guarantees at all and the pension options are far less appealing than the public sector workers....though clearly the real stink is how much the idiot bosses at councils are over paid and how unaccountable they are
