5 Things You Never Knew About Goats.

I wanted to know why Goats stood on things and while browsing I came across a few other goat related facts.

5 Things you never knew about goats, well ok maybe you will know a couple but meh who cares.

1. Goats have accents. (just like humans do) these change as they grow older and move into different groups.

2. Goats stand on things. They, after all, originated from the Zagros Mountains in Anatolia, where they had to climb rocks and cliffs, and they can hold their balance in the most precarious places, including trees.

3. They have weird rectangular pupils. Goats’ eyes have horizontal slits, which give them deep peripheral vision and allow them to monitor predators in a broad area. Horses, cows, and other hoofed animals have similar pupils, but goats’ irises are usually pale, so they show up more prominently, and are more able to scare people.

4. They Give Us Cashmere. It’s still cold, and you might even be wearing a sweater. Cashmere first came from the soft necks of goats in the Kashmir region in the 18th and 19th centuries. Cashmere goats produce a double fleece, with a fine undercoat of hair. That’s the source of your soft scarf.

5. They Don’t Eat Tin Cans. But they will chew on almost anything. Goats are not grazers, who eat grass. They are browsers, who feed off leaves, shoots, fruits, shrubs and other plants. They will taste and bite anything that might look like plants and wooded vegetation, including cardboard boxes and paper—even labels off, yes, tin cans.

I know they do, I just found it an odd question. I've just never really thought about it. Isn't it like asking "Why do fish swim?"

Ooh, I just looked that up.

Apparently frogs don't have an outer ear but an inner and middle (?) ear and also hear with their lungs. How bizarre.

Used to watch James Herriot, clearly remember the goat episode..but too busy watching Tristan making a fool of himself over a young lady to take much notice. I did know about the slit triangle eyes thing though.
Also know their milk is good for skin complaints and that the smell of goats cheese makes me vom.
