ITV to make BB bid?

According to The Telegraph, industry rumour is they want it to replace TOWIE on ITV2 now that's moving to ITVBe:

I don't want BB on ITV2

smeagol 02-04-2014 07:57 PM

They better not. it needs to stay on 5 if its to carry on improving. itv will destroy it.
they dont take risks they dont do on the edge they do polite tv . and bb is not that.
they will turn it into a soap opera and cut cut cut if they get it

Never gonna happen - if ITV didn't get Big Brother in 2006 or even 2008 then I highly doubt they'll be interested in BB in its current state, especially for ITV2.

You mention "it's current state". I know ITV2 is a digital channel but Big Brother gets double (if not more) the ratings of TOWIE. I don't think it's completely out the question.

I want BB to stay on channel 5. It's improving and i love that they take risks.

Did they decline it in 2006 or did Channel 4 just stop delaying and renew it? And why would they be less interested in it for ITV2 than ITV? It's current figures would be great for ITV2, they wouldn't for the main channel and TOWIE, MIC etc have shown digital channels can pull decent enough numbers to justify it. I hope they don't get it for BB's sake, they'd kill it, but I don't think it's completely unlikely given they'll have been reviewing it's success for Channel 5 when considering any bid for the channel as a whole.

I expect it's also a hell of a lot more expensive than TOWIE. That said, in the extremely unlikely circumstance they do take the rights they could split the cost by airing the Celebrity version on ITV.

Plus, we can't assume BB would get the same ratings on ITV2 - there was a large drop between C4 and C5.

Yeah, CBB would be at home on the main ITV channel. And you make a fair point about it being more expensive, but ITV also have alot more money to spend, and would undoubtedly get a bigger return on the Big Brother brand than it does with TOWIE as they would be able to charge more for product placement and sponsorship tie-ins.

It would die on any ITV channel. On Channel 5, it's a big fish in a small pond. It would drown on ITV. Mind you, Emma would be able to keep presenting.

I think Channel 4 had first dibs on renewing it and when ITV showed interest Channel 4 panicked as endemol inflated the price to a ridiclous amount £180million for three years.

On itv it will get more viewers, but would it still be as good?

This is a very valid point.

Moviefan 02-04-2014 08:17 PM

Unless they talking about old BB eps, I would not mind that being on ITV 2!

But new BB on ITV 2

What ITV2 show averages anywhere near CBB's 3 million? It would be a small fish on ITV, it would still be a pretty big one on ITV2.

He makes a valid point regarding ITV shows on a whole. And what digital multichannel do you know that averages 3million? There isn't an audience that big on any digital channel as far as I'm aware?

Imagine the editing and the hm...
It'd just be TOWIE in a house!

He said on any ITV channel, and yes (well, Inbetweeners used to on E4) that's my point, CBB does.

Although I firmly believe it's unlikely ITV will actually take the plunge on Big Brother, it is worth noting that ITV2's director of digital channels is Angela Jain - who was one of Big Brother's commissioning editors in its later Channel 4 years...

Oh there's no way anyone but C5 will get it, I agree, current management have made it pretty clear they're still interested and it is coming up to the time when they usually renew, I just wouldn't dismiss ITV2 having at least considered looking at it as an option out of hand, they do need to find something to replace TOWIE on ITV2.
