Interesting 'Characters' where you live?
 

Does your town/city have any interesting 'Characters' living there that all the locals know?

Yes. Johnny 'Welly Man'.

He's a homeless man who is seen all round town and in the surrounding areas. You usually smell him before you see him. He always has wellies on no matter what the weather. He's usually very cheerful and says hello to everyone.

I think there's a page for him on Facebook, I'll go look.

We have three main ones:

The Kirky Legend – an older homeless man with a long grey beard, he'd walk around our main street with his backpack. Unfortunately, he died last year. It is believed he used to be a psychiatric doctor.

Radio Joe – a man who walks around the main street with a radio in his hand. Harmless, lovely guy. He has some mental health issues but he's a nice guy. Everyone knows him. Haven't seen him in a while now I come to think of it but he's normally also got a 2L bottle of Cola from Tesco.

The Kirky ****** – an older man who is looking for a sex change. He dresses in women's clothing and is known by everyone. Not sure of her name, actually, but she has style.

edit: I didn't come up with these names, it's what these people are referred to in conversation where I live.

Theres an old woman who walks up and down the street every day searching through the bins for things. She'll stop in the middle of the town surrounded by people and take the bag out and have a good old look through them. Also fat man small car who drives past my house regularly, This huge bloke who owns one of the smallest cars i've seen and he takes up every seat in the car. Quite a few well known old piss heads that stroll around drunk all day who are usually a laugh.

..there have been some very interesting characters on Friday evenings when I've been out with a friend who is a street angel..other than that I guess only the guy who sells the Big Issue, he's not 'odd' in anyway just someone who has lead an interesting life/tells great stories and someone that most people stop and chat to and everyone knows...

When I was younger and we used to "hang out" there was a homeless man called Bruno who used to bed down in the Bus Station. He had a drinking problem but was normally a good laugh and everyone spoke to him. He did have the tendency to "turn" though and you could be having a laugh with him one minute and the next he would be chasing you down the street......ah good times :laugh:

We have 'Rudy (is god)' who is a crazy black man that wears a spoon on a necklace around his neck and has a 1000 year old denim jacket that says RUDY IS GOD. He likes to sing in the town centre and loves stealing cokes from shops and growling at people.

Yeah, there's this woman that used to come into work (who we) called Susan Boyle, she had mental health issues, she'd wander around talking to people asking to shake their hands or other weird stuff, sometimes she goes completely off on one too, she jumped on the floor and started praying to allah once, another time she asked us to phone her a taxi and when it came she waved it on :conf2:

Sock man too, he's autistic and he wears a sock on one hand for some reason, he used to attack kids outside the bus stop, and at xmas we had mince pies on the till and he took one, but he shoved his fingers into the centre and handed me his money which was covered with the jelly **** then he shoved the pie in his mouth and started talking, sending it all flying

..oh this has just reminded me, we did have a lady a few years ago but I haven't seen her for a long time and she also had mental health issues and she would just talk to anyone/anywhere about her sex life and in complete detail and one time she stripped naked in the street...

some boy called james that lives on my street, he's like 22 and has learning difficulties. a few years ago he'd walk around the area at night listening to (mainly pop) music on his headphones and sing along really loud. I think he moved lol haven't seen him for a while

also some elderly black woman that's always on the bus who wears her own jewellery made from random things like cotton buds and makes scary groaning noises

Daft Andy - Just wanders around constantly for no reason and his famous line towards any female he see's on the street is 'Hiya! Wheres your boyfriend tonight?'

Popeye - Absolutely reeks the place out so all the kids run past him holding their noses, when he goes into any of the shops they have to spray lots of air freshener when he leaves.

Ginger Bottles - Think he has some mental problems and he goes around looking for ginger bottles (glass juice/pop bottles) every day to spend in the shop.

Tommy toot toot - Just a normal guy really but the kids chap his door and runaway or throw things at his window then he chases them in his car beeping the horn, hence the name Tommy Toot Toot

Sady Glenn - Old alcoholic woman that walks around the main street looking in the bins and chasing the kids.

There was a small man who use to walk around town with a scooter. He'd never ride the scooter, just walk with it whilst it held his shopping. I believe he's dead now. R.I.P to one of the most legendary men ever.

We have a chap who comes into the local village pub who has a name that sounds like it was made up by H. E. Bates. He's a proper countryman, always has a couple of dogs trotting along behind him and until a couple of years ago, he had a pet magpie he found as an abandoned chick, raised, and the magpie would sit on his shoulder.

I never go Into my town centre but when I go to norwich it's all about the puppet man

OMG Nathan... He creeps me right out! He stands outside Primark, which is another reason I don't shop there. You can see parents pulling their kids away LOL...

He looks to me to be an amalgamation of all of the above.

I think my area is relatively normal in comparison to these, I can't think of any.
