Why do Chat & Games posts not count?

I only found this out the other day and it explains why I haven't reached 5k yet.

What is the actual reason for them not counting towards your post count? I genuinely can't see why not. :conf:

To stop people spamming and getting high post counts (e.g. games like Last Person To Post Is Sexy) but then with the advent of +1/-1 games it seems a bit redundant to me now.

Roy Mars III 25-04-2014 04:15 PM

no good reason

Locke. 25-04-2014 04:15 PM

They only count for people with above 5k posts

InOne 25-04-2014 04:20 PM

Because it's mostly nonsense there.

Roy Mars III 25-04-2014 04:21 PM

only mods get to post nonsense and have it count

But that's where the main chat happens, and also forum games like Elimination, Coach Tip etc where people take time out of their lives to actually take part in those games and their posts don't count :/ Surely if you're a member of this forum and you make a post then it should count regardless?

Well I agree with you but I think the official line is there's no reason to change it back to making them count, just as there's no reason for it in the first place, it's just one of those rules that's in place and will probably never change.

Roy Mars III 25-04-2014 04:25 PM

post counts should be eliminated in general. They are useless and only result in elitism

Didn't actually know it still counted for mods in there. No wonder they have ridiculously high post counts.

posts in the mod section do. Why do you think people like Marc have such high post counts. they spam the place

James 25-04-2014 04:39 PM

It would be too easy to get an artificially high post count if posts counted Chat and Games by posting in word games, random chat threads and so on.

There are threads in Chat and Games that could be posted in General Chat or another forum. If a thread is about a specific subject it could go in another forum.

It used to be that the post count next to posts didn't show a specific number, just something like 1000+, 5000+, 10000+ etc. I think that was better actually. There is an argument for doing something like that again, or even hiding the post counts completely on threads.

MTVN 25-04-2014 04:41 PM

We only have highly intellectual discussions in the Mod forum about such topics as Russian literature and Greek philosophy, we're not in there playing bloody last person to post is sexy

MTVN 25-04-2014 04:42 PM

I would be all for removing post counts altogether mind you, or at least having the option to hide them

Crimson Dynamo 25-04-2014 04:45 PM

Yes, many of my highly amusing posts are should really count as 100 and not one as it does not reflect the complexity and uniqueness of the post

several posters should be deducted 100 each time they post as well. if Arista posts about the Chinese in Africa digging for minerals i would dock him 1000 but if he makes a highly amusing random post about say golden showers i would award him +1000

Ramsay 25-04-2014 04:48 PM

Silly that it counts for the mod chat thread tbh

Jack_ 25-04-2014 04:49 PM

Are people really going to spam just to increase their post count though? Does anyone do that anymore? They would really care that much? If somebody spams just ban them...

Having posts not count just means it's not really a post count, is it? It's hardly an accurate representation of how many posts you've actually had meaning all the awards aren't really that true at all. If you're going to have a post count it should include every post you make, no matter how little or big, that is the point of having such a count after all.

The spamming thing was Jess and Tommy in protest of Thomas C being allowed back on the forum if I remember rightly. Other than that I never remember much spamming at all.
