Phone Etiquette?

How do you answer the phone?

I know it sounds like a daft question and most would think 'um I say hello' :umm2:

I answer and say hello but I have heard some people answering differently like someone I know answers the phone by saying the phone number and then this one makes me laugh but I know someone that answers the phone and just says 'Wit is it!?' (what is it? for our non Scottish members) and like I said when I hear it it makes me laugh but others that phone and don't know the person must be thinking **** this guy sounds really angry lol..

So how do you answer the phone?

Ammi 28-04-2014 03:21 PM

Niamh. 28-04-2014 03:22 PM

I just say hello lol except at work where I say the name of the company and then Niamh speaking.

Kazanne 28-04-2014 03:24 PM

AnnieK 28-04-2014 03:33 PM

Hello.....
At working, the company name and then my name...

My dad answers with his phone nmber

Shaun 28-04-2014 03:35 PM

If it's unknown/formal, then hello. If I have caller ID and it's family/friends, hi/hey...

I then walk about aimlessly for the duration of the phonecall either way :/

I cut off if there is any delay at all on the line, can't bear cold callers. If it is someone I know, Hiiiiiiiiiii how are you, whats up etc etc.

My First Word is "Yes"

All that know my number know its me.

I will not say hello if its a Fecking sales person
I tell them its a private number
Do Not Phone Again

My Mum always answers by saying Hello and then our phone number, don't get why really seeing as people know what number it is they've just typed into their phones. Alright they might have the wrong number but even so they'd realise straight away anyway

Jessica. 28-04-2014 04:22 PM

If it is a sibling or my mother I answer by saying "ya/yes" but if it's anyone else I say "hello".

Locke. 28-04-2014 04:26 PM

"Alright. What are you ringing for?"

Don't like talking on the phone really, I would much rather text.

Natalie. 28-04-2014 04:37 PM

ello

Sophiee 28-04-2014 04:38 PM

I always just say 'hello' whoever is calling.

smudgie 28-04-2014 05:05 PM

Hello.

If it is a cold caller I then scream as loud as I can..try to make their ears bleed:devil:

Marsh. 28-04-2014 05:53 PM

The only time I've ever heard anyone say the phone number when answering is Victor Meldrew on One Foot in the Grave.

I just say hello.

InOne 28-04-2014 10:23 PM

Usually just Hello or I'll Alright <insert name> how's it going? if I know them fairly well. I used to be fairly good at talking on the phone but lost it in the last few years.
