Tipping/do you..?...

..yes I know we have had this before as well but tipping people in restaurants/hairdressers etc..do you tip/believe in tipping..?...

Jack. 02-05-2014 06:30 AM

Depends on the mood I'm in on that particular day. If I'm in a wonderful mood I'll give them a few pounds but if I'm in a not very good mood they are lucky to get a thank you never mind a tip

Ammi 02-05-2014 06:36 AM

Sometimes, if Ive paid 70 quid to have my hair done I begrudge another fiver though.

Crimson Dynamo 02-05-2014 08:36 AM

I dont agree with it at all. It makes no logical sense.

Well that is your first mistake right there

Sometimes I tip. I don't tip my hairdresser - he owns the salon he has plenty of cash - but I tip the girl who washes my hair and does the head massage thing... it's worth a tip, she's great at it. In restaurants, I tip if the service was good. Taxis the same. If I'm in the US or another country where tipping is the norm, I always tip between 10-20% whatever's appropriate.

Josy 02-05-2014 03:47 PM

I normally pay around £57 to get my hair done so just round it up to £60

Samm 02-05-2014 03:48 PM

I tip the people who clean up in McDonalds because I feel sorry for them

mizzy25 02-05-2014 03:51 PM

£57 to get your hair done???? if I get mine cut and hi lighted its supposed to be £47 but if I go on a fri late the owner isn't in and the hairdresser thinks that's far too much so she charges £37 and I always round it up to £40. if its just a cut I norm give her 2 pound shes been doing my hair for about 20 years now like.
taxis, normally round to nearest pound or its say £9.70 id give £11.00. restaraunts norm a couple of quid, but im not made of money so I don't give ten per cent I give what I can.

Ramsay 02-05-2014 03:53 PM

Whenever i get a taxi i just give the nearest euro but thats it
It's perfectly fine to do it in America as they get lower wages but over here? naah **** that

Does the hairdresser have particularly large and clean windows?

Calderyon 02-05-2014 04:53 PM

I thought tipping was only common on fine restaurants and hotels. Never knew that ypu "should" tip your hairdresser or the one who drives you from place to place. I have never tipped, but then again, i usually eat on junk food restaurants and travel on a bus.
And i nowadays don´t usually use cash to pay as i pay with my debit card (and i don´t carry cash with me), so tipping is not an option.

However if i did go to a hotel or eat at a fine restaurant, i probably would tip them.

You are not wrong

If I pay by card I don't, if I pay by cash I normally try to tip a few pounds as I don't want to look like a bad person. However, I believe that in most places the waiting staff don't get to keep their tips.

lily. 02-05-2014 05:24 PM

I generally tip 10% for food or hairdressers etc.

Calderyon 02-05-2014 05:27 PM

Also it seems that on here tips are profiled as a taxable income (an alternate income named: service money on here), that one has an legal obligation (has to) to inform to the tax collector via a tax form.

Also i don´t know if many professions here are are allowed to take tips. And if they are, they have to do like i said earlier.

what about in a supermarket if the lady has been nice and packed your bags?

lily. 02-05-2014 07:46 PM

It's usually wee lads packing bags in our local supermarket.. and I chuck a quid or two in their bucket.
