should the forum introduce a VIP feature?
let's say say a months subscription for £2, which would allow you to
-have a coloured username
-have a gif avatar
-have 'VIP' above your usertitle
-gain access to a private unmoderated subforum
-delete your own threads
-change your username (only once though.. if you want to change it back/change it again you'll have to wait until your next subscription)
-increase PM box capacity permanently by 20 messages
-look at who's appearing invisible
-hide post count and join date
-have access to a VIP theme
-not have to wait 30 secs between searches. idk if that can be done though
-have a 'VIP' award after 20 subscriptions
-change poll options
-have access to more fonts/colours/other formatting options
etc.

it's a feature used on a lot of forums

James was thinking about introducing a subscription service with coloured names and some other extra features a little while back..

There wouldn't be an un-moderated forum though :laugh:

It would help out a lot with hosting and server fee's etc for the forum but I suppose there is a possibility that some people would maybe feel left out?

I still think it's a great idea though.

We can have gif avatars already. I had one a while back.

If everyone used a gif avatar and sig the forum would lag a lot, that's why theres limits on the sizes, if you were a paying member those limits wouldn't apply to you.

If they got their own sub-forum for VIP only and they used that all the time, I think if some of your friends on here did VIP and you didn't, it would kinda single you out a bit and would either pressure you into buying it without wanting it or you'd just leave the forum.

But some of the ideas sound quite good, except I wouldn't mind us being given those for free ;) :laugh:

Yeah I think it's a good idea in principal. If it's optional all good. Wouldn't like to have to pay a subscription to view the regular site. My partner is a member if a forum who asks all members for regular donations for the upkeep of the site and they don't get anything extra. It's not compulsory but loads of them donate.

Cant now but I guess anyone that chose yes would pay a subscription?

Well tbf Sam sites don't come free (not proper ones anyway) especially one as large as this and the forum owner pays it from his own pocket (there's been no advertising on the forum lately)

And a subscription option would help towards costs but it wouldn't ever be compulsory.

Yes, it's a great idea, I don't think I would pay for it myself because I don't really have much money for leisurely spending. I think it would benefit the forum a lot and I think if people are contributing money to the forum they would take it a bit more seriously too. I don't think it would make anyone feel left out tbh, They will deserve the perks for donating and it wouldn't be a steep price, so I would say go for it. :D

and people thought the post count was an issue for elitism :umm2:

I see no point in it, and I wouldn't invest in it, so I voted no.
