Ferrets

Does anyone have them? My son wants them, will they attract rats if we keep them in an outbuilding?
Will they get fleas and give them to the dog?

No ferrets hunt rats they wont attract them.

And any animal that caught fleas could potentially pass them onto a dog.

I bought 2 with a friend a few years ago, we build them a house and everything but the ****ers stunk so badly. You could smell them from a mile away and they bite like little bitches. They are pretty fun if you can stand the smell and biting. Their ****s are disgusting too.

Kizzy 05-05-2014 01:47 PM

Ah, no way then I don't want a smelly garden :/

Drew. 05-05-2014 01:48 PM

We kept them as clean as possible, cleaned them out every day and washed them regularly, the smell is impossible to get rid of.

Drew. 05-05-2014 01:48 PM

Get him a guinea pig

Josy 05-05-2014 01:52 PM

Drew not looking afterhis ferrets right, they only bite if you don't get to know them properly.

Z 05-05-2014 01:56 PM

Yeah I normally find if you ask a ferret its favourite colour and which team it supports it usually buys you a few rounds instead of biting you

Kizzy 05-05-2014 02:02 PM

I had some vicious smelly beast once...... but we broke up :joker:

Crimson Dynamo 05-05-2014 02:25 PM

To keep Rats Away forever

But they stink
so a outside area built for them is wise.

Some kids have White Rats
as pets - amazing.

It would be cool if they did keep rats away, my neighbour said she saw some in her garden ( she has a huge pond) And it is a concrete shed so they would be safe, I just thought the food and smell might attract them:/

I hate those red eyed ones

Sophiee 05-05-2014 03:25 PM

my dad used to keep ferrets, they can bite quite nastily and they do smell. I wouldn't advise it personally .

Kizzy 05-05-2014 03:29 PM

Oh flip no idea what to do now... It's different looking after them at college and doing it at home, I know someone who used to keep them will have a word thanks for the advice :)

Cherie 06-05-2014 10:45 AM

Don't you have to do stuff with ferrets, like take them out ferreting around at night, and don't they live on mice and small mammals, I think they would be alot of hard work and if they smell well that's an end to it.

Crimson Dynamo 06-05-2014 10:51 AM

what about some chickens?

I would agree with this :amazed:
